How long did you wait for an interview?

Hey guys,

I applied for a job back on the 10th of January. The next day, I was contacted by their recruiter telling me that my resume passed their initial screen and I was asked for some more detailed information about my experience. At the time the company made the request, they asked me for more details and said, "then, a hiring manager will be contacting you about the opportunity." I promptly sent the information and waited. After a week, I called for follow up to see if there was anything else I could do and the office manager told me that the hiring manager had been traveling, but he will be in touch with candidates soon. Another week went by and I sent a follow up email just to express interest and see if I could provide anything further. The same woman told me the same thing, and apologized that she couldn't give me a timeline. Well, it will be a month since the request next week and I'm starting to wonder. I truly believe I am a good match and I know the manager has the resume. I've been told someone will be in contact, but I'm starting to doubt... Should I follow up again? I don't want to seem pushy. Should I apply for one of their more junior positions even though I passed the initial screening for the mid-level? I don't want to seem desperate. Is a month a normal amount of time to wait? I'm running out of options in this city and have started looking outside, but would really like to stay here if this opportunity comes through. What do you guys think?

Frankly, it could take as long as months. Especially in big companies, there is a lot of HR red tape, or the hiring manager might be out of town or too busy, and oftentimes, you have to be very patient...it's unfortunate, but it's a fact of life. Same holds true for getting interview results.

I hate getting the runaround.

I don't think following up every week or two is too pushy. Is there any way you can find out the name of the hiring manager and contact him directly?

Shade, seems like no. As time goes by, I start to doubt - but I have also had companies call me months later that I had forgotten about. I think it's just because I want this job that I am trying to will it, which makes it more painful because I want out of my current situation badly.

I think it just depends. I've had places initially call me, leave messages and sound all eager to interview, I call them back several times to set up interviews and they never respond back. Go figure. This one particular place of which I describe, also looked like it would be a really cool company to work for.
