View Full Version : Getting in trouble no matter what I do!

It seems like no matter what I do at my job, I'm always getting in trouble for what I didn't do. I mean, it's a small company, and I'm both a tech/sales person taking calls, plus the webmaster for the company. Management doesn't seem to understand that I can only be one of them at a particular time. If I'm dealing with customers, I'm not working on the website. If I'm working on the website, I'm not dealing with customers. I'm not talented enough to do both at the exact same moment.

So just now, I got in trouble because I didn't deal with this task my one boss gave me to complete and he was asking why I didn't complete it. He didn't really care that I was working on the website, which I had gotten in trouble for on Friday from my other boss, because I've been too busy dealing with customers to update the site.

I've tried that crazy thing called "logic" on them, to no avail. They honestly believe that what I do "takes no more than 5 minutes" and they have told me this on several occasions. I've rebutted with that it takes more than 5 minutes and that all I have to do is just "cut and paste the new stuff, how hard can that be?"

I'm looking for a new job, but until then, how do I get through to these people? Or is just something I'm gonna have to deal with until I finally get out of here?

Just ignore them, keep doing your job and keep looking for another one.

What about spending mornings on the website and afternoons doings sales? Alternatively, it sounds like you need to have a meeting with your two bosses to prioritize your workload. Go at it from the confused worker bee angle and I don't think it will cause much conflict.

Didn't you know you were supposed to be working day and night?

I would follow this advice.

We'll find out tomorrow. Just got in from jury duty to another nasty email, saying how I didn't do all this stuff, when the only thing is that I wasn't able to get a current link from a distributor.

It would be nice to have an even break with web stuff in the morning, and sales in the afternoon... but I'm taking calls all day long.

I want to be taken off sales. I'm not good at it, and I don't like it. That's what I want, and I know I'm not going to get it.
