hmmm I lived in Spain back in 2004 (study abroad). I think 2000 E would be fine for a modest lifestyle there, especially if you get roomates. Madrid is a party city so you will spend a lot of money out. If you are a girl you can go around Sol collecting free shots to start your night, so we managed to get around some party expenses that way...

Do you have a job lined up? How much travel are you planning to do? Southern Europe, especially Portugal, is much more manageable in terms of cost.

Never worked in Spain but you better check to see what the tax laws are. You could end up paying the Spanish government some tax, then having to pay the US government taxes again. Double taxation is real depending on the country. Spain might have a tax agreement with the US, but you better check.

Plus if you have a residence in Mass you'd probably have to pay them taxes too. lol
