Aside from being made an offer or being asked to attend a second interview how do you know if it went well? I just just got the stanard we are interviewing line. I choked on that what have you learned about xyz. I alsways read up but when they ask I choke on the answer.
Ohh, and I can not believe I picked up the pen on the table and started to play with it. Luckly I caught myself.

I think the only way you would be able to get an idea of how well the interview went is how you felt afterwards. Did you feel like you and the interviewer got along? Did you talk enough but not too much?
All you can do is wait a couple of weeks and then call in to follow up. Also, make sure you send a thank you to each person that interviewed you.

I tend to go with my gut on these things. It's a surprisingly good barometer. I think most people go wrong when they don't trust their instincts.
Besides that, I wouldn't fret over it after the interview's over. If the job is really worth anything, they'll let their candidates know either way. If they don't, then it probably isn't all that great of a place to work for, anyway. All the good places I've gone through this with have made it a point to keep me in the loop at every step.
But then, I've never really gone through an HR office to get a job either, so maybe it's different at big companies.

I work for HR and we tell our interviewees if they have not heard within two weeks to give us a call. Once they interview with us we have to wait for the managers to give us a decision on whether they want to hire them or not. The managers get busy and sometimes these things get put off. Once a decision is made then we either call them with an offer or send out an no thank you letter.
However, I recently interviewed for a company that never gave me any word. After my first interview, they said they would call me within a week. When I didnt hear from them I called and followed up. They said they would be in touch. Another week went by and then I got a second interview. After that I never heard from them again. I had already accepted another offer so I never followed up after the second interview. It kinda made me mad though that they interviewed me twice and then just never told me anything else.

To be honest, there's no way. Just don't get your hopes up...I've done it so many times after supposedly a "great" interview, and I get El Rejecto two weeks later.

I think I would rather get rejected than not hear back.. ever. I know everyone gets busy but it is irritating if you've already put your time and effort to do the interview (maybe 2 interviews) and not hear back from them.
The least they could do is say no, we don't think its a good match.
And as already posted above, if you don't hear back from them, then its probably not a good company to work for.

Ya, I hate when places do this, because it is actually worse on your morale that a clean rejection. You think you are in the running because you had a second interview. You are making possible plans for the future, hoping for the best - then time passes, and some more time.
Don't forget to send a thank you note to the people that interviewed you. Sometimes it's just that little bit extra that does the trick.

Does anyone ever call back to get feedback on how they could have done better on the interview and such? I've read in a book that its alright to do so. I did that a few times and some places were very good about it and wrote out a thoughtful response. Most of the time my emails get ignored though. I hate being ignored or not hearing anything back especially if I had to make a long drive and stay overnight in a motel for the interview.
