David Patterson hadn't even been governor for a day, and he admits that he had an affair (http://www.nydailynews.com/news/2008/03/17/2008-03-17_gov_paterson_admits_to_sex_with_other_wo.html).

Whoa, are all politicians going to have to disclose this from now on once they take office?

I thought it was a pre-requisite.

I swear, his eyes are strange! They're very shifty...Perhaps he suffers from 'haughty-eyes' syndrome! Hehehe

I wouldn't be surprised if he was eye-ing at the bridesmaid at his wedding. O sheez, that's a bit below the belt isn't it!? He has weird eyes!

I certainly wouldn't trust a man with such eyes!

Um, I think that's because he's legally blind.

I saw this. The guy's being up front and honest about it. He and his wife had some difficulties, they had affairs, they went to counseling and saved their marriage. It's clear to me that she loves him.

I hope they leave Governor Paterson alone about it. New York State is facing a serious budget crunch and the sexual piccadillos of the state's leadership should go on the back burner. The sexual attitudes of Americans are really dysfunctional.

in some ways it makes sense for soebody running for public office to be proactive and let his own skeletons out of the closet

The problem is the ridiculously high standard people have for politicians. This is a representative democracy. Which means that we're going to elect people a lot like ourselves. Americans cannot deal with reality, which explains a lot of what's going on with this.

Nonetheless, I do think Governor Paterson did right in coming up clean. It clears the air, which is what they need in Albany just now.

I'm glad americans still have high standards for politicians. If an elected official can't be honest with his wife and restrain himself from cheating thereby putting her emotional & physical self in danger (and family)...why would I trust him to treat his constituents well? Why wouldn't he lie/cheat in other ways? It also makes me question if he has any respect for women (and as a woman, that matters to me). It's a way of life....and it is not acceptable when you are a person who has life changing authority over social/political/ethical issues. Being able to control and channel one's sexual urges and following through on commitments is step#1 in becoming an adult. If they can't do that, they don't deserve to be a leader, IMO.

I am trying to think positively that maybe having someone in office who not only is "disabled" and "accomplished", but who has also made HUMAN mistakes, can actually be positive for my state, and the field of human services that I work in.
