I will probably have to re-locate within the next year or so. I am currently thinking that I want a new job. I want to be in a position where I can advance and also increase my salary because pork 'n beans won't cut it.

I'm thinking about going through a hiring/staffing company to help me land a good interview/job. Will they keep your information confidential from your current employer?

Usually when you go through an agency - they have a contract that you sign! And a privacy statement! Which states that they have a 'duty of care' to keep your details confidential.

In addition, they usually check referee details obo of the company - the company doesn't check them direct...from what I've heard.

Perhaps some HR gurus are better at answering this question. But, they would be breaching their duty of care if they didn't uphold the signed contract.
