I was reading another thread entitled "They Cut My Job, The Economy Sucks, I am Broke and I am having a QLC...Words please?", and several people (including myself) started complaining about how much it sucks to live in Florida, what with a high cost of living, budget cuts, jobs lost, and all that.
I think I said what I had to say about housing being ridiculous in Key West ($1,400 for a relatively decent apartment, that was just my guesstimate, but it can be worse!), job market sucks, and things I didn't mention, like a lot of stuck-up people (which we can debate is everywhere, but I've been to places where strangers have impressed me), and a joke of a dating scene,
but to all you Floridians reading this, where are you from in the state, and what are your complaints about your area? or just the state in general...let's start some ranting! c'mon! :)

OK, I'll rant a little. I live in the Clearwater area but commute every weekday to Bradenton. That's like 80 miles round trip every day. I have 2 jobs, both of which are really full time(which is why I live in Clearwater). The economy in this area is soo bad that I can't afford to not have both jobs in order to meet my debts(mostly school loans). I love my "day job" which is also my chosen career because the people are wonderful and easy to work with mostly. My second job which was really my hobby/passion that got out of hand is a total nightmare for me right now because my boss there is quite literally the devil. I love what I do there, I just can't stand my boss. This is all complicated by the fact that the slow economy here has made regular paychecks from my "real job" less reliable and so I have to rely on the income of the second job more and more - frustrating as hell.

80 miles round trip every day? Jeez, that's a long way!
I live in the Ft. Laud area. I can't even find a job, ANY job and am getting ready to leave. (My Loooong Quarterlife Crisis thread explains all that so I'll leave it alone). But the cost of living; oh my Gawd, the cost of living is absolutely outrageous! The smallest grocery trip buying the most basic items can run one bankrupt down here! It's AWFUL! It's like there's a giant funnel cloud over my bank account, sucking my money away, just sucking, sucking, sucking it away!
It's a shame, I really love it here otherwise, but I finally had enough of the BS that's not going right in my life. The things that wouldn't bother me if I had a job, are really getting under my skin right now because nothing is going the way I want it to. So I think I will be glad to get the hell out this month. I'll miss it here, I really will, I love it here, but it's not worth it when I can't even find a job.

gainesville. it blows. about the only place in state i can tolerate is sarasota and that's because i actually have a couple friends down there. plus the fishing is good.
honestly if i can say that one of the supposed "greatest" college towns in the US sucks, that doesn't bode well for the state as a whole. can't wait for my UF prison sentence to be up!!!

I think this is the second response I've given to you in the last 30 seconds, lol, but I went to USF in tampa, and there were a ton of people who thought UF was 100 times cooler, and the overall impression I got was that UF just had it more "figured out"...oh well, I'm graduated now, so screw it! :)
