I just moved back to Colorado a few months ago, and I have to admit there doesn’t really seem to be much of a night life anymore. I mean on Friday and Saturday nights there are people out but during the week it seems like things are pretty much dead.

I live in Greenwood Village, which I have come to find out, unfortunately, is sparsely populated with people around my age, 26, but there has to be some place around here that young people go. And what about downtown, where do you go to find people out during the week?

I can’t get this information from anyone I work with, because I am the youngest person in my office by about 17 years, and the only single person in the company, so I thought I’d post my request here.

I am so amazingly bored that if someone doesn’t help me out I may literally die from the boredom, or turn into a serious workaholic, since that’s all I have found to do.

Thanks for the help.

You really think Colorado is boring? I lived in Denver for 3 years and had the time of my life. Where is Greenwood Village relative to Denver? While living in Denver I entertained myself by going to rockies games, attending events at the Performing Arts Center, going out to dinner, and hitting the bars downtown. I find it hard to believe that 16th Street is all that empty these days (even on "school nights"). Just pick up a copy of Westword and see where they're having local live music. My favorite places were Above the Dove and The Church.

If you're interested in meeting people then hang out at Stella's coffeshop or St. Mark's coffee shop. Everbody knows everybody as those places and it won't be long until you know them too.

Another alternative is to take a few classes at UCD or Metro.

Where are you working?

I went to school at the University of Denver and had a great time, but after graduation I moved back to Manhattan, and just moved back to Denver a few months ago, like I said. I don’t know if Denver is slower than it was before or if my frame of reference has just been changed since I am out here from New York.

Greenwood Village is 25-35 minutes south of downtown Denver, it’s pretty much right where the Tech Center starts so like I-25 and Bellview. I work in Greenwood Village, at an institutional money management firm, and I chose to live in Greenwood Village because I knew enough about the traffic in Denver to know that with TREX highway project making the drive from downtown to the tech center twice a day would make for a long commute. Now I whish I would have rented a place downtown and just made the long commute.

I don’t know if fewer people go out now or if it’s just that people are spread over more bars, because it seems like there are a lot more places open now then there were when I was going to school out here, about 3 years ago.

Thanks for the recommendation of Stella’s and St. Mark’s. I don’t know about above the dove, but the church is only open Thursday – Sunday. But there is no way I can take classes at UCD or Metro, I am studying for something called the CFA and the work that’s required for that makes the thought of taking classes for fun sound frightening.

Really what I am looking for is local places in the Tech Center, Englewood, the area around DU or Wash Park, that are busy during the week or at least certain week days. I tried to stop buy the places we went in college, but for the most part the places still cater to college kids, and the average age is 19-21, and primarily undergrads, which would be great if I had just graduated from college, but at 26 I have jumped into the creepy old guy territory.

Trvlr,

It looks like we have a lot in common. I originally moved to Denver to work as a stockbroker. I took night classes to study for the CFP. If I hadn't gone back to graduate school for a MS in Econ then I would have studied for the Certified Financial Analyst cert. I lived right near DU (about I25 and Yale). I just moved out of Denver 4 months ago.

Unfortunately I can't give you much advice on places to hang out in the Tech Center area. Usually my friends and I would head North if we were going out. There are a bunch of cool places near Wash Park though. Maybe check out Hemingway's or Washington Park bar.

I think that you'll find that things will pick up once the weather turns warmer. Everybody will crawl out of their holes and start drinking more beers on outdoor patios. In the mean time I would suggest studying for the CFA in public places (coffeeshops, restaurants, libraries). You're not going to meet anybody sitting at home!
