well I spent 5 years in the 813 in Tampa, and as for the 352 like Ocala, I've spent some time there in case you need any questions answered, basically all there is to do there is go back in the woods, shoot stuff, and drink...always a great combo! :)

I'm in 386/407. Volusia County. :-) Gainesville seems a bit hickish to me. It's beyond me why someone would want to go to college there.

yeah, sadly i had to decide to come to school here after only 2 days of visiting where i was mostly focused on determining if i could find some research to work on at UF rather than the quality of life.

what do you do in Volusia?

I'm a teacher. :-) Online HS... senior English.

Edit: Are you in undergrad or grad school? I have met so many HS seniors who think the Gators are gods and want to go there. I can't understand it. It's boring enough where I live, but I can at least get to civilization within half an hour. Many of them like to poo-poo UCF, but I really love that school. I'm finishing my masters there and it's such a pretty campus, good programs, and lots of interesting growth happening. My sister will be going there in the spring for her undergrad.

I'm getting my Ph.D. I am supposed to be done with it in 9-12 months.

I couldn't for the life of me imagine being an undergrad here. I went to what I would consider a "big" state university for my undergrad, but the experience I had is completely different than what I see/hear about the undergrads here having. UCF is massive too, and I know nothing about it except that I have been to a couple of football games there, but it seems to have its "shit" together a little bit better than UF based on outside appearances.

Anyways yeah, Gainesville isn't terrible I guess, but there's alot of racial discrepancy (for instance the "bad, ghetto" side of town on the east versus the "affluent" side of town on the west, with random pockets of ghetto interspersed. But for alot of what I need, I don't have any choice but to go to Jacksonville.

Hmm...I went to USF, and I knew some kids there who transferred to UF cos they thought UF had their "shit" together, and I always thought the same thing about it too.....oh well, that stuff's ancient history (1999-2004) to me now!

same story for me as UCF, i know next to nothing of it beyond tailgating football games and how to get to the campus! i hear less about USF than UCF though, in terms of research and education news...so maybe the order of "shit togetherness" in FL is USF < UF < UCF
