Anyone from Northern Michigan?

Anyone around the Traverse City area? I was thinking about a support group or just a way to meet new people and discuss problems, ideas, or meet new travel buddies :)

I have never lived in Michigan (most of my extended family lives in the Grand Rapids / Holland areas, and I grew up in the Midwest), but I must tell you how much I've loved vacationing in Mackinac Island and Traverse City over the years. I've traveled to so many places, and they remain among my favorite destinations (especially Mackinac).

I can't imagine there's much of a job market there, though, outside of the vacation / resort / food and hospitality industries, though. how are you finding the working situation in the area?

It is beautiful here in Traverse City since we are right on the lake. I was born and raised here so it is easy to take for granted how wonderful the water looks in the summer!

That is one of the main reasons I believe people leave Traverse City is because it is such a tourist town. For example, I have always wanted to be a Anthropologist but there is NO demand for that here. I bought a house two years ago so for the moment am grounded here. I have always been able to find steady work. I worked at a big insurance company for five years then at the airport for two years and have recently been with a shipping company for the last year and we just found out that we are closing so I am soon to be laid off and out of work...that is scary because the people I know here who are looking for work cannot find it.

Anyone who I have spoken to who says they have vacationed in Traverse City and the surrounding areas have said they loved it though :)
