I saw a volunteer opportunity in our last church newsletter that stated that the neighborhood association for the area that the church I go to is in was looking for a memeber of our church to represent the neighborhood association.
I love people, politics and community service so I would probably get enjoyment out of this opportunity. The only thing that I have reservations about is that I was bit in the ass by the politics of doing similar work about eight months ago. I feel that I have the intellect to come up with ideas and get things done, but my weakness lies in dealing with people problems, quite notably territorial battles. Ever since our flood last year and the politics that have ensued since last year, people in our community have often felt (including myself) that they have to prove themselves, and it has led to some pretty messy battles. I would like to try and avoid this, but again I feel that this would be an opportunity to be of service to our community, and an opportunity to make some friendships.
How would all of you respond to this opportunity? Would you jump in a do it, Would you watch and listen for a while before you jump in, or would you just not partake in an opportunity like this? I would like to hear your input?
