A couple of weeks ago, I interviewed for a really great job. It was in my field, in a great city and with a young staff. Plus I aced the interviews and everything, so I was super confident I would get it.

Turns out the day after the interview, I get an email from him saying that the position was on hold and he wasn't hiring. I have to admit I was pretty upset and bummed out about it. I mean, figure this out before you have interviews.

So karma, the universe, God, whatever you want to call it, gave me a birthday present. I was looking at jobs online and I see a job posting for the director of technology at the same company I didn't get hired at. I have to admit I find this hysterical.

Why was it karma? You think the person heading the department you interviewed for was fired? If so, and the position was on hold and he mislead you, then yea, serves him right;):

I understand your frustration though about interviewing for a position on hold. That blows. Some companies will tell you upfront that they're accepting applications and may be interviewing, but not currently hiring. For instance, w/ the Toronto government, you can apply for "Current opportunities" or "Ongoing recruitment". But they had to put their current opportunities on hold due to a municipal worker's strike. They cleared all jobs listings, posted a notice, and notified applications.

Unfortunately, not all businesses are as organized and considerate. It gives you a preview of what to expect as an employee. Consider yourself lucky.
