My company is no longer giving raises. No surprise, times have changed. Any of you dealing with the same thing?

Not at my current job, but the newspaper I worked for for seven years prior to this had a salary freeze in effect for the last three years I worked there. Just how it is in that industry.

Wow, I'm surprised you're just getting this now. Most companies have had this policy for some time, at least from what I've heard/seen.

ah yes, come in for the group hug! Me too...

I feel like a salary freeze is like sitting at a long red light or the slow lane in a traffic jam. Wherever the fast lane is, I need to get there because I feel like everyone else is zooming past me. I know plenty of people still getting raises, I know a few laid off and they seem to love that deal, other than me I don't personally know of others dealing with this salary freeze crap, which is why it is comforting to see this thread. More work seems to be conveniently piled on during this salary freeze and it really feels like punishment in a weird way.

We haven't gotten raises for the past year and a half, I guess. Also, there isn't much of a ladder to climb here, so it's not like many people are getting promotions. It makes it hard to be enthusiastic about coming to work...

Despite having suffered a lot in the current economy, my company actually hasn't instituted salary freezes. I'm frustrated, though, because they're holding off on my long-promised promotion, and the excuse they're giving me is that they just can't afford to give me the accompanying raise right now. I know I'm lucky to have a job so I can't really complain, but it's annoying that my company knows that, too, and is taking advantage of it.

Raises have never been too common in my field, so it's not something that really bothers me like it may others who are used to this practice.

I would always love to make more $$$$$ (who wouldn't?) but fortunately, I feel like I have a pretty good deal financially and other benefits-wise with my current employer so I can't complain. For me, personally, it's important to look at perks beyond the monetary with employers. Too many times it's been not a good fit, for me, to just "follow the money".

My husband's company does annual performance reviews for all employees at year end and then the merit raises are awarded in April after they see how the previous year's profits were. This year merit raises were postponed 6 months company-wide. We will see what happens in October.

I am due for my annual performance/salary review now but I know my company's hurting a little this year...and I'm not sure how the review will go down because I have been on maternity leave since Memorial Day...I doubt I get a raise.

We had a salary freeze this year, but we still got bonuses.

I work at a mid-sized ad agency. I started last July and was told there were reviews at six months and every December. Every year you get a raise, and of course you also get a raise when you get a promotion. Well, six months after I started the economy tanked and so last December no one got raises, even people who were promoted. Mid year promotions just came and same thing, so obviously I'm not expecting anything come December. On a plus side no one has been laid off.

That is what happened with my husband's company too - it seems so silly. Not that I'm complaining about his bonus. Wonder if those will materialize at the end of this year? I didn't get one last year for the first time in seven years at my company.

Ours did materialize. I get my bonus in July. It was actually 10% too, which is the max I can get. I was surprised they didn't try to cut them at all.

I received an annual performance merit increase in February, but they announced it would be reduced by .5% from what it should be (i.e, you earn a 3% raise, but only get a 2.5%). I guess I shouldn't complain, because it really only amounts to a few dollars a year anyway.

But what I am disappointed with was the disappearance of the C.O.L.A., which was a nice little kick every year. I got one the first two years I was here, but last year I received nothing. Both were bigger than any of the raises I got.

yeah, raises were stopped where i work too but they couldn't just come out and say it so i got the message in the form of "they're still working on it" or "wait until next month, it should go through" and in the meantime three months passed....i haven't had a raise in over a year now and the employee morale of the place is basically zero.....

We only get merit raises, we don't get cost of living increases at all. But that's always been that way by design, it's not something tied to the economy.

My boyfriend's company doesn't have a salary freeze, nor have they done away with bonuses, but they did discontinue their annual profit sharing, their pension program, and their educational reimbursement program in the past year.

I would be happy with 1%... f'ing anything would be better than ZERO... blah, yuk, 0.

We have several staff that are on warning and being watched closely for termination, these people are given enough rope to hang themselves but they are never given and difficult time-sensitive tasks because senior mgt does not trust them. To know that these under-performing folk have earned the same raise as the top performers, 0%, is incredibly frustrating. I will also say, even though I don't talk water-cooler chat I notice a HUGE decline in morale lately. Just seems like zero, nothing, nada, zilch, is just crap because it puts people that are top performers on the same ground as people that fake sick and get caught.

I agree - this year has been especially hard..I have been in a salary freeze for almost a year now with no raises in sight for next year eaither. To boot out health insurance has been cut as well! Morale has really gone in the shitter around the office you can just sense it. To boot im trying to fund my own graduate degree since our education budget has been cut...which just reminds me how incredibly overprices school is..

Same here. We didn't get our COL increase this year, lost our 401K match, and lost some vacation time.

We don't ever get merit raises just the lousy COL up until this year. This sucks because this means everyone just stays at the same level you're hired in at even if you work here for 35 years. Once a person passes the 90 day probationary period there's really no incentive to do ANYTHING except commit a terminable offense b/c it will never make an ounce of difference.

Sounds very similar to what I am seeing...

I'm not getting a raise this year and I lost ALL of my vacation. Which wouldn't be so bad except that I now have literally no benefits whatsoever. :(

Can you take unpaid vacations, or are you just not allowed to take days off? Either way it sucks.

I'm "allowed" one unpaid day off per month, but they were good about giving me three days off to go to my relative's funerals in PA this summer.
