I always get nervous on the first day of school, and I'm not even a teacher anymore. I do work with a day care program that does before and after school care, and it was cute to see all the new first graders (they were kindergartners last year) arrive nervous and with a new outfit for school today. :)

I'm not a teacher so it doesn't phase me. I find it kinda funny though that a lot of my friends on Facebook who are teachers have been posting for days now about "going back" and it's like the world is coming to an end or something. What about the rest of us who HAVE been working all summer, and day in and day out?! I hope I don't offend anyone, but I work in just as stressful of a field (social work) so part of me just feels like posting to all of them to quit their whining and bitching. :p

I totally get what you are talking about. I have quite a few of these facebook friends myself and all of them have been doing it for a week or so...I just want to say you have a job, you've been off for a few months vacationing at the beach, and now you have to come back to reality. But you have a (nicer) paycheck than mine and great benefits, so count your blessings. I don't mean to offend anyone either. Everyone has their own issues. A lot of this may be my bitterness at the job hunt and questioning going on in my mind about my skills, talents, abilities, and true passions. So forgive me, and "end rant" now. :)

We're year-round at our school, so it's really no different than our ESY program, which runs all summer. We get five days off around Memorial Day and five days off in August to flank the summer program, so I teach all summer, really. Which is nice, because I don't have to go without wages.
I also don't get jitters, because I'm with kids one-to-one, which is much more comfortable for me than a wider teacher-student ratio. I always feel prepared, because I individualize everything to one student at a time.

Just wanted to pop in and say your job sounds amazing. I, too, prefer working with individual clients. It's so much nicer to individualize.:)

I'm not stressed out, though I always miss sleeping till 10.
I'm really excited though, I'm trying something new this year. Going into uncharted territory so to speak. That's what I love about this job, there's always going to be a time to just "start over".
