I just heard this on the radio...so I won't take credit for it as my own, but...

...growing up we all watched our favorite TV shows interrupted by a test of the emergency broadcast system. Does anyone remember them USING the EBS during 9/11? Just what in the hell type of wrath-of-god catastrophe are they waiting for to USE the EBS? And don't tell me it's not ready...I saw them test it every week. So what's up?

Just a thought provoking thing I heard. Now talk amongst yourselves.

You are so right! Them heffas used to interrupt my favorite tv shows and cartoons with that annoying test, and when they needed it, it was nowhere to be found!

Growing up in Kansas, it was always used during tornado season and still is. I can't imagine they'd use it for something other than a weather emergency since it is a localized system connected with each area's exterior siren system.

I'm along the lines with Gracie...

Out here they use it for flood warnings....flash flooding....severe storms. I think they only use it for "predictable" emergencies.

as a child i used to FREAK OUT whenever the emergency broadcast system interruption used to come on. my mom thought i was crazy because i would cover my ears and scream. i remember being really scared of it. i hate that thing.

When I was little I would get scared when it came on too. I didn't understand what it was and the high-pitched tone just made me shiver.

They use it in PA if a child has gone missing recently. They will interupt and have a spoken message (typically on the radio) stating that a child has gone missing...blah blah blah.

i heard this on the radio too. yeah it interupts our favorite shows and then when there is an emergency they never use it. but if the electricity isnt on, we dont hear it anyway!
