Anyone out there from Dayton?? I'll tell what's contributing to my quarterlife crisis...lack of good girlfriends. I went to college in MI and now I'm back in Dayton w/o anyone to do girly things with. I visited with two college friends last weekend, and we agree that is definately something missing!!

Has a group been started in the Dayton area? I am 26 years old, married, and I just completed the book and loved it!! I would love to get together with others going through the same crisis.
Please let me know!

Hi,
I'm FROM Dayton- funny. I grew up there, it seems like once you know people, you know the whole town. Did you go to college out there? Where do you work? I can't even tell you what was fun anymore- I haven't been in a while. Is there much to do for a twenty-something? Ever since I left, I can't imagine going back, I can easily stay entertained out here in California. I do miss the type of people out there- it seems as if they were a lot of beautiful and usually intuitive people. And the green is so pretty.
Being a bartender you should be meeting a lot of people- I talk a lot, I had an EASY time getting to know people.
What are you looking for? What was your degree in?
Good luck...
How suprised am I to see Dayton, OH already listed? I recently moved to Dayton for my first job since graduating from college in Chicago. Definately a change of pace, and I also miss all my roommates and friends that I could just hang out with and do 'girly stuff' like gelitas said. I hate being entirely defined by my work.....

My husband is from Chicago and we visit often, so I understand how different it is to live in Dayton. It is more difficult to make friends, as many things are not within walking distance, etc.
I am in the process of going back to school to completely change careers because I felt the same way - every day was the same - get up, go to work, come home, and get up the next morning and it all starts all over again. Plus, I wasn't happy with my job which made it even worse. I would ask myself quite often, "Is this all there is?" Finding satisfaction and fulfillment through my work is really important to me. So it's on to the next journey...
Take care!

It's cool to see some people from Dayton posted! I was surprised by what Sun Bear who is now in CA said! I orginally from the Southwest and I miss the way people are out there...In my opinion they are much easier to get to know than people from the "Midwest." I guess it depends on what you're used to though. I plan to leave ASAP which at this point looks like it will be September 2003.
What are you going back to school for, Betsy?
lish, I would miss Chicago so much if I were you! I've only been a couple of times, but I love it!

Hi There!
Thanks for writing! I am going back to school to get my masters in school counseling - so that I can become a guidance counselor. I am really excited and finally feel like I am on the right track. I am a little nervous though, as I have this whole fear of failure thing! But I am just going to go for it!
I would agree with you that it is difficult to get to know people in this area - I am from Cincinnati but have talked with many people (especially single) who say it is very hard to build a network of friends. People tend to have their networks already formed and aren't as open to accepting new people. It is also because people who live here are not very transient. They have lived here all their lives or have been here for quite a while-people like to raise families here. People don't leave (unless you are a traveller and realize how miserable it can be!). Other big cities, like Chicago have people moving in and out all the time, so friendship circles are very unpredictable and necessary to feel grounded and so people are much more accepting. If not, you may turn around and everyone has moved to new cities!!
Hope all is well with everyone else!

has anyone that MOVED TO Dayton gotten a speeding ticket yet? Since I've been out here, without the jams (something you get to miss in Dayton) I don't drive slower than 75- the cops seem to be more lenient here. They could get the slow drivers out of the left hand lanes though...:D

I do think OH cops tend be very strict about speeding! I went to college in MI and everyone speeds right by the cops and they rarely stop anyone unless they're driving a semi! I haven't had a speeding ticket in quite a while knock on wood...
Betsy where you going for your master's? I'm working on mine in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) at Wright State.

Are any of you still posting to this site? I would be interested in joining the Dayton group if there isn't one in my hometown Cincinnati.
