I'm just starting my first full time job this coming Wednesday and I am so nervous/scared. I don't know why. I guess it's because it is totally new territory and new people. But I wish I could calm down. I'm sure it is going to be fine. Can anyone give me advice for the first day? Thanks.

be early, eat breakfast, wear comfy yet presentable clothing, and don't forget to bring a lunch. try not to have too many assumptions about what your first day will be like. this way you won't go home disappointed if things didn't go the way you expected. the first day can be hectic and confusing which is normal i think. congrats and i wish all goes well there!

Thanks TranquilSkye. I appreciate the advice. You're right. I shouldn't think too much about the first day or I may come home disappointed. I'm sure everything will go well. I have everything planned out so far. I hope the people like me.

Well, I had my first 3 days of my new job. And I am completely overwhelmed. I was told in the interview that I would be trained for 3 months. Well, get this. They guy who is training me is leaving in one week. This coming Friday is his last day. And it seems that they hired me to take over for him. I feel so lost. I am in no way going to be able to do what he does. And he is the only one in the department who creates websites, which is what they hired me for. Even my boss does not know the program that they are trying to teach me. So every day this week, I have come home crying because I am so stressed out. The guy who is teaching me, learned everything in 6 months, so is it fair for them to expect me to learn everything in 1 week? I really don't think I can do this and have already contemplated leaving. Please help!

step one: calm down. unless your boss is a completely unreasonable individual, i doubt he or she expects you to achieve what is supposed to be achieved in 3 months in 1.5 weeks.

step two: i would talk to your boss about your concerns. the best thing you can do is establish a precedence of openess and honesty with your employer. this is a perfect opportunity. tell your boss that you are feeling a little stressed because your trainer is leaving in a week. you are worried about learning everything in such a short time. see what he or she says about it. they are probably more understanding than you think.

thanks kitalyn414. you're right. i need to calm down, really. i am trying this weekend. but for some reason, i'm like already thinking i'm going to leave this job. i don't know why. i am going to see how this week goes and then see what they expect of me after this week is over. if it is too much, i will just tell them. my boss seems to be confident in the fact that i will learn what i have to in one week. but i don't think so.
