Sorry to bother you all again, but i just remembered a couple more questions that I would like your thoughts on...

Ok what happens if you already completed an associate degree in both psychology and sociology in another country and you're trying to now pursue a full bachelor's degree in psychology in the university here? Will I have to do everything over again? Will that cut down the time i spend doing the 4 year degree by much?

Also does any one you know any colleges in boston that allows one to both work perhaps full time and complete a bachelor degree at the same time within the 4 year period?

I haven't been able to land a job since i got here either..and it's been 5 months any ideas on what I can do? I have no work experience as well......

Thanks.

I know UMass Boston is very flexible with students who work and go to school. They are T accessible (red line) if you don't have a car. www.umb.edu I went there for a semester for grad school and was a grad assistant to an undergrad class and many of the students were working and going to school. They also have a lot of international students, so I'm sure they'd be able to work with you in some way. Good luck!

I know you wont have to start all over but you might have to take some placement exams. Any transcripts or other records that show your coursework should help also.

it really depends on the university you want to attend. some don't accept any course work from out of the country and others accept a lot. talk to an admissions rep, send them your transcripts, and see what they say. if they won't accept any of credit ask about placement exams like someone else suggested.

good luck on the job hunt. it's very tough for everyone these days. what kind of work are you looking for?

Thanks again for your thoughts...

Pisces, I have been looking at UMASS. Soembody recommended I try there. Do you have any idea when they usually take in applications students for january of next year? I am so clueless about the admissions process with these colleges. They seem so much more completed than the process in my country:( I tried to talk t someone from admissions at UMASS but he was kindda grumpy and rude and he would tell you stuff but won't explain and because of the attitude you're afraid to ask him to elaborate.

TranquilSkye, right now I am looking for a receptionist position or something in administrative but no luck so far:(

Sorry you had to deal with a grumpy person at UMass :( Please don't give up! You might want to try the continuing education program at UMass--some courses are offered online which are great because you can do the work when you want to (before deadlines) and keep a full time job. I would suggest you make an appointment with an admissions counselor and go in and talk to them. I don't know if you'd be considered an international, tranferring or new student--they would be the best people to tell you how to apply and as what type of student. Good luck to you!

well a good place to help you find receptionist work would be a temp agency. they'll give you all sorts of skills tests to see how many wpm you type and which software you're familiar with, etc. with summer coming more companies need temporary help. you have to be really proactive with them though, call at least once a week to see if they have anything for you otherwise you may just sit in their database for ages.

and since the admissions rep was no help see if they have a transfer center or an international students dept. they deal exclusively with students in your situation and should be a lot more personable.
