Hey guys -

I have some great news to report. I just had a conversation with my manager's boss, and there are some opportunities in the relationship management area that he thinks I am qualified for and wants me to explore. In not so many words he told me that if it's what I wanted to pursue, he would make it work. Yee haaaa!!!! No more cold calls and no more sales bullshit!!! I'll keep you posted.

Realtionship Management is basically maintaining the business relationship after the deal has been done. In other words, it's alot of schmoozing, and keeping people happy, and sometimes cleaning up messes. Not sure that it's what I'm here for, but Sales is definitely not my purpose.

Anyway, I did not know that you are going back to school Jen. For what & where? I have ben so wrapped up in the antidepressant debate that I haven't been looking at other posts. Shame on me.

I'm going to UNH for either a master's in Health Care Administration w/ concentration in health policy and finance OR a Master in Public Administration with a concentration in health care. I start next Monday! I can't wait. The thing that pissed me off about telling my boss was when I mentioned the money. She was like, Yes, but Yale will reimburse you. I could NOT get her to see that shelling out $1500 up front before you get reimbursed (I'll only get like $500 back) is a hardship. Whatever. I'm officially broke as I have $400 to my name until payday, then I have to pay rent and all of these other bills. Fun times, I tell ya.

Hey hey hey, I just met with the SVP of Sales and Relationship Management and told him that I was interested in a Junior RM role. In not so many words, he told me that I would be wasting my time as a Junior RM, and that I am ready to step right into the RM role. His words:

"In the last two years you have met and exceeded every challenge that this organization has put infront of you, and I see no reason why you are not capable of handling a position as a RM."

He then proceeded to talk me out of my own feelings of not being ready and not having enough experience. He even used a climbing analogy, because he knows that is what I am into.

This is way cool. I am on cloud 9 today.

So I have more meetingsthis week with other RMs, RM management and HR. I'll let you know how it goes.

TTFN!

Thanks man. I half feel like he is overidealizing my situation, half serious. He tends to be a very idealistic thinker, and I'm not sure he's totally grounded in his opinion of my capabilities. I think I still have some development ahead. But one thing is for sure. NO MORE SALES gig!

Ahh, I can't take one more cold call!!!

hmm that actually sounds a like an interesting job, although it may be kinda tough if you have to deal with horrible clients to make happy. Good luck on it, tell us how it works out.

Relationship management = sales

though it's much softer than the traditional sense of the term.......this is often referred to as Inside Sales.

Good job, hope you like it and it works out.

In my world, relationship management is just that. You don't sell additional 401(k) plans and DB pension plans to existing business. There's just no need. It's all about maintaining an existing relationship and offering solutions to problems that are presented. Sometimes, you end up selling, but it's not the same as selling $300 million 401(k) plans. The bottom line is no more cold calling and supporting a sales rep. I become the key point of contact.

I almost called my boss who is on vacation this week on his cell phone to tell him to fuck off and that I'm not going to cold call another person as long as I live. I don't know what to do, but I'm going to give it until the end of january to sort itself out.

I have my 7 and I want a company that will hold it (why? I'm not sure, but I'm sure there's somethign I can do now that I'm 7, 66, and insurance liscenced)
