well, we couldn't get in this morning cuz of a supposed "rent dispute" with the landlord. things have been bad at my firm lately but who knew this bad? not paying the rent? payday is tomorrow...doubt that happens. we're having a staff meeting at 11.15 am. i guess i find out my fate then. i've already packed up my desk and am wondering how much stuff i can take with me...its not like a closed down architecture firm is going to need office supplies!
the thing that sucks is that just over 8 months ago i left a huge firm where i was payed well and no chance of going out of business or even being laid off to come here. they had a better rep for design and it was smaller so i thought, 'yeah! less corporate!' i guess that really means, 'hey, we try to pay our bills when we can. oh, and screw you.'

If they have good desk chairs try and take one with you. I wish I had taken mine when I was laid off, the chair where I work now sucks! :)
On a more serious note, I know what it's like to get laid off and I really emphathize. Good luck!

Uh oh guys...she hasn't been back. Either she's still in the meeting....OR they made them leave right away and she didn't have time to post anything.

Alright...i'm back. Thanks for all your support!! It wasn't quite as bad as it could have been. we're still in business though i'm not very confident in the firm's backlog of work they have lined up though they assured us that we are finally turning a profit again...its just the cash flow that hasn't quite caught up. plus, i'm not happy with their tactics on dealing with creditors (or at least the landlord...they call it playing chicken).
bad news is that one of the partners has left...he's the reason i joined the firm. so it's down to the bare bones here. it'll either change the shape/feel of the firm for worse (he was a real care free, casual guy) or give the few of us left a real opportunity to take charge and make things happen.
but when do you say that's it; i'm not going down with a sinking ship?
and btw, i'm taking home a few office supplies tonight just for spite. I would have taken the computer but have no use for a Mac at home...though Ebay would have been a good idea.

Even though it seems like things are starting to slide...at least you weren't canned! Can you start looking for other positions while continuing to work there?
Good luck!

Now there's an idea. While you are at work, start liquidating their assests on e-bay.
Glad things are somewhat ok. Good luck to you. Maybe you could just start looking around to see what else is available.

Maybe I don't know your situation...
But I would say that you should definitely start looking for a new job- one of those better to be safe than sorry.
I hated working for a small consulting firm, I totally felt like it was sketchy even though there was a ton of work in etc. It's just that there was only 1 owner and so essentially he had all the power to either make it work or NOT.
It's really scary to be in that type of situation - I am really feeling for you!
this happened to my husband last summer. he went in one day and they said there was a screw up with payroll and it would be corrected in the next pay period. WRONG! it was a cashflow issue (ie they had none) they ended up screwing him out of 2 paychecks and 3+ weeks of vacation time which he had been saving for our honeymoon. it took about 7 months, but he did find a new job. i would start looking now, esp since one of the partners has left. good luck!
