Hi,
I am recently unemployed and have a BS in psychology. I am interested in event planning/wedding planning as a career. Does anyone know of any ways to get started?

Hi. If you cannot find a job in your chosen career, try finding something else like an Admin Assistant job kind of thing. It helps to pay the bills. You may not like it but like what I said it will pay the bills for the mean time. Good Luck.

I am a photographer, and I don't really like to shoot weddings, I have done event planning before. Much more fun.

Know anyone getting married or throwing a bash? Offer your services for free so you can show what you are made of and then use them as refrences. If you live in a large area, look for something as a concert prommoter, or hook up with a local club. Event planning can encompass a bunch of things.

Do a search online for the national wedding cordinator sites. If you can't find out how to get started, email and ask. Go to your local bridal boutiques and ask if they know anyone. Another thought is find some people doing what you want to do, but 50-100 miles away, and call them up and talk to them. This way you are not talking to your competition and they might be more likely to help you out.

Then, in your town, you can start to make some contacts. You might be able to assist someone in your area with a big project. Another option is to call the hotels with large banquet/reception facilites and inquire about employment.

Check out all the wedding trade shows as well. Those are a good place to make contacts.

Hope this helps.
