So Friday I have a 1st round interview at a Strategic Consulting firm in DC. I'm more nervous than I thought because well, I really hate my current job and am extremely interested in this new one! Any advice on 1st round interviews in this field? Its not a huuuge consulting firm like McKinsey but a respectable small firm. It is entry-level and is very research/writing-based for the first year. Thanks! :)

I say try and prepare yourself as much as possible as I know with consulting firms, at least tech consulting firms, they expect you to know a LOT. I interviewed with a consulting company and had a torturous 45 minute technical interview that surpassed any final I had in college. One piece of advice I do have, is talk slowly and don't talk too much. And remember to ask them questions as well.

you might have to do case-style interviews. basically, they want to see that you are smart and can think on your feet. It really depends though, depending on WHAT type of strategic consulting. If you want to PM me the company name, I'd be happy to help... I may know someone there. :)

I've interviews with consulting companies. At 2 of them, I was given a math test with GMAT questions - no calculator allowed.

Then you might also look up standard brain teaser type questions. Microsoft uses them.

Hope that helps! Good luck! :)
