Election day! Are the ads being shown more or less? Tensions high? Visits from candidates?
CT is kinda forgotten b/c it traditionally votes Dem so not much effort is needed. I wonder what it's like to live in a swing state...anyone want to share?
Weirdly enough, the major CT papers have endorsed Bush, so this should be interesting to see...

I am seeing the ads as much as usual. There is supposedly a surprise visit at a high school just north of Pittsburgh today. Our governor on the Kerry bus with other potential "celebrities" according to an anonymous teacher that called in today.
Our Governor is a joke! Rendell (a Democrat) has refused to extend the deadline for absentee ballots. Pennsylvania ballots were delayed in being made in sent because the courts were deciding whether Nader would be allowed to vote or not. So they did not want to print the ballots until they knew if his name would be on them or not. Nader is not going to be on the ballot in Pennsylvania (thanks in large part to Democrats that were afraid of a third party and that might take votes away from them because people) so the ballots were finally printed. This DRASTICALLY shortened the window of time for the ballots to be mailed and returned. The people this impacts the most? The military serving overseas.
So basically this was a great effort to squash as many military votes as possible and apparently it has worked. Thousands of military votes for PA will not be counted because they don't meet the deadline. And who do an overwhelming majorty of military personnel vote for? Bush.
Another interested PA update (since we are a key state in this election)...PA has set up a voter complaint and assistance phone line for people that may have questions on or before next Tuesday or run into any issues. Apparently the people manning this line will be able to give you the proper guidance. And who is manning this line? People appointed by the Rendell team...aka Democrats. I am sure the information will be completely unbiased...YEAH RIGHT!

I'm seeing a lot more local ads, and getting lots of ads on my answering machine...I hate that. You get home and have a 2 minute message telling you to vote for someone you may or may not have heard of!
I'm so excited, I really want to see what happens this year. Apparently there are scores of lawyers on both sides ready to go, and I'm guessing, we won't know the true winner for sometime.

There doesn't seem to be a lot of ads for the presidential candidates here since California is pretty much locked w/ Kerry. I do notice a lot of commercials for local elections and a lot of mudslinging going on for those.
One thing I noticed which I think is pretty tactless is that there is this huge Bush Cheney sign near the freeway onramp by my apartment and somebody keeps spraypainting "Satan" over it and then someone cleans it off, and the person keeps coming back and doing it again. Seriously, get a life.

I don't get any either, lol...but I saw in the Post (at Chris' house) that they were endorsing Bush, the Register is too (read at the parents') and my brother told me that the Courant is as well. I don't know where he saw that one, lol.
But the Times is endorsing Kerry. They also endorsed Chris Dodd for CT senator (PC alum!), Jim Sullivan (instead of incumbent Rob Simmons) and Chris Shays over Diane Farrell (challenger).

They say Oregon is a battleground state, but don't believe it. Kerry is going to win here by at least five points.
We are getting absolutely bombarded with tv ads. Presidential candidates. A million ballot measures. A Congressman that was revealed to have tried to rape a girl while in college 30 years ago. It's been pretty nuts.

We are constantly getting bombarded with ads here. And I think either Bush or Kerry is here once a week.
I can't wait for the election to end just so the ads stop!

Connecticut is not a battleground. Neither is Oregon...it potentially was, but it's now pretty much out of play for Bush.
Here's all you need to know of the election. Kerry needs Pennsylvania (likely) and either Ohio (toss-up, leans Bush) or Florida (toss-up, leans Bush). Bush needs Florida. If he gets Florida, then he also needs Ohio. If Ohio goes to Kerry, Bush can still win with wins in Wisconsin (toss-up, trending Bush) and Iowa (toss-up, trending Bush), as well as either Minnesota (toss-up, trending Kerry) or New Mexico (toss-up, trending Bush).
Bush has a dual strategy that will get him a narrow victory, an alternative narrow victory, or a substantial electoral college margin of victory.
Kerry has a single strategy that will only win him a single narrow victory.

Hi, thank you...I already stated that (in different words).

Well, since IL will go Kerry (much to the dismay of the republican stronghold out here in nonChicago), it hasn't been so loud around here. The Alan Keyes/Barack Obama race has been more vociferous, and our state level stuff has gotten downright hideously mudslinging.

There is one other scenario. If Florida and Iowa and New Mexico go to Bush, and Wisconsin and Ohio do not, then Bush has 266 electoral votes.
Hawaii has NO advertising, NO candidate visits, 3 electoral votes, and is all of a sudden a 47-47% split with a history of voting for incumbents. If Hawaii goes for Bush (a distinct possibility) when their polls close (at 1am EST!!!), then it's 269-269 and the US House of Representatives get to select...a third option for a narrow Bush win, a fourth option overall.
