What is Howard about exactly?

stonemonkey

john howard, he's our current prime minister. right wing conservative monarchist. he's copped a lot of shit for being the deputy to bush's sheriff, dragging us into the war in iraq unnecessarily, and just blindly following america's lead.

I guess we should know who your prime minister is. We're american, we don't care about anyone but us. And even rarely at that.

I'm sure alot of americans think everyone in australia is like Crocodil Dundee. Why don't they send Mick Dundee into Iraq? "Do what the insurgents say dundee, they have a bomb!" "What? Thats not a bomb. *KABOOM* Now thats a bomb."

No, but stonemonkey's refutation of the backwards-swirling toilet water phenomenon certainly resulted in a major scientific enlightenment for me. :p

LOL!!

They could genetic modify some koalas and parachut thousands of them into Iraq. They look so cute and cuddly and all of a sudden they freak out. "I asked for a simple thing and thats Koalas with frickin laser beams attatched to their heads!" "But we did modify them" "Are they ill tempered?"

Ha ha ha... I think most the time Koalas are stoned on Eucaliptus leaves... Apparently kangaroos can kick you to death! Now thats a WMD! Ok enough Australia jokes...

The tiolet water does not swirl in the other direction? I did not know that!

You guys are still on the monarchy? What do you think about that?

WeirdBrake

I don't know about anyone else, but I'm sure getting in the mood for some Foster's beer.

i'm just secretly amusing myself with the idea of how much american tourists get paid out when they come here, so i say bring on the australian jokes, there's nothing i haven't heard before.

damn yankees ;)

anyway, to answer your questions:

nobody in australia actually expects anyone else to know abt our politics.

koalas actually have some pretty sharp claws, but the only dangerous thing abt them is when they piss all over tourists when they cuddle them and pose for photos. in some areas, there are too many koalas, and they were thinking of culling some, which would involve some dude with a shotgun going around shootin em out of the trees. which seems really wrong to me.

we had a referendum a few years back to decide whether we wanted to be a republic. however, it was f**ked cuz the ppl who ran it were all monarchists who wanted to kiss the queen's ass. the way they phrased they question was not 'should australia become a republic?', but 'should australia become a republic under the model we've propowed, whereby the president would be elected by politicians, not the public'. most ppl said no, and the monarchists took it as a mandate to stay as a constitutional monarchy. practically, there's no difference, it's just symbolic. it also means we retain the british union jack in our flag.

and no, the toilet water doe NOT swirl 'backwards' when you flush it here.

You should recruit some americans when its time to kill the koalas. We love shooting and killing shit. Doesn't matter how cute or beneficial it may be. We don't even need a good reason to blow shit away. Tell us to kill it and we do. As long as it can get stuffed or we can keep some sort of memento. You know, to relive the "Thrill of the hunt". 'So there I was, that koala was a lookin' at me and I could tell he weren't no regular koala. He was crazy and wanted to kill me and my family. So I smeared koala urine and feces on myself to cover the scent and I crept. I crept and I crept. I could tell I was smarter 'cause he didn't try to run or nothing. Then I said "Fuck you, you Teddy bear looking mother fucker!" And I shot his head clean off. I think its obvious I'm the superior species."

"yeah, there were some few tense moments there, we thought we were done for when the koala was sat there dangerously, stoned on eucalyptus."

our coat of arms contains the kangaroo and the emu. we're the only country who eats the animals on our coat of arms.

"So there I was. In scotland now on a hunting trip. We were drunk and made billy put on a kilt. Thats when we saw the unicorn. It was the most beautiful thing I ever seen in my life. It was like looking at a miracle. Like watching Jesus Christ being born. So naturally I grabbed my gun and killed the sum bitch! Killed dead! But it turns out it was just some fellers horse and we had to leave on a plane the next day. They wouldn't let me keep the head or nothing. Man, scotland stinks."

And I'm sure we will, sooner or later. Hence the reason many of us entertain the idea of moving to Canada, even if only in jest. I doubt I'd do that if Bush is re-elected, but I might seriously consider it if Bush and his right-wing friends end up trashing this country beyond recognition--"beyond recognition" meaning the essence of what makes this country great would be lost along with many of the freedoms I hold dear. Ugh. Well, if I can help it, he won't win.

Really?! Oh boy! Y'all friendly American folk can come and stay at my house. I might need roomies in a few months too. :D

However, I am beginning to feel that Toronto may not be so safe anymore no matter who is elected. We might get dragged in either way. Thats ok we can all stop by Toronto and then we can all move to the Yukon to live with Eskimos! Or Northern Quebec - Celine Dions old stomping grounds!

J'aime le poutine quebecois! C'est delicioux! It is ze best poutine in ze world! Or should I say Freedom Fries with gravy and cheese on top. Umm Umm...

Nicolas.......just remember that our country is deeply divided right now! Half of us don't want Bush and are trying our hardest to speak out, volunteer, get voters to the polls, etc. But, yes, unfortunately if our country elects Bush, 'we' will get what 'we' deserve.

And we don't need a non-American telling us that either.

Yeah. It's not as if a sizeable chunk of the population isn't anti-this guy. So, unfortunately, if he gets elected to another term tomorrow, a lot of us are going to get what we DON'T deserve.

If President Bush is re-elected tomorrow...relatively shenanigan-free...will you accept him as president? I've been kind of curious about that...if this lingering feeling of illegitimacy among a signifigant segment of the population will go away assuming he is elected to a second term fair and square.

I accept him as president now. I didn't choose him, but that's the way it goes. I really hope it doesn't go his way, tomorrow, but I'm not dumb, and know that it very well might.

I may not like everything he does, and I think that maybe he did some things for maybe the wrong reasons, but I think he doing as good a job as anyone could expect.
