Dating Scene in NYC

I have just moved to New York City. I am very frustrated with the dating scene here. I have plenty of guys through friends. They all seem nice and interesting but on the first date, all they want to do is have sex. I feel like I'm always kicking them out of my apartment or feeling frustrated about a bad date. When I asked my native New Yorker guy friend, he says people here only wait until the third date at the most for sex. He attributes that to nobody here having time to get to know anyone. Whatever happened to getting to know someone first? It all seems wrong to me!
