So now that the election's over are we keeping it? Any thoughts?
My vote, still, is to do away with it. I liked it here better when it was gone. That would help us all move on, not dwell, not gloat (ahem!), and get back to just being the great group we tend to be!

So if it's gone, will politics/politically-related issues just not be discussed, then? Somehow, I don't see that happening.

We did it that way for, what.....5-6 months this year???

But them coming up was the reason it was reinstated. We have a lot of people on the site who are interested in current events. Do they just not get to talk about them because the election's over?

i'm with wordsmith. ppl obviously WANT to talk abt it, and i don't think it would be cool to have that stuff popping up in other places. what happens in that forum should stay there.

Okay...how about a probation period???
I just think the tone is so bloody with it here. And I think we could stand to get away from that for a while.

I do see your point...believe me.
But I'm thinking it's kind of a Pandora's Box. You can't put stuff back once it's out there.

We did it before.....
Only a lunatic, lefty, communist, hippie-pinko, ignorant liberal wouldn't see that.
See what I mean....

i tend to think of it as a 'quarantine area' for a virus.

i agree that it makes us all a little nasty, however, how it is nice to have a venue to discuss political issues in. the overall feel of the boards was a little less hostile when the politics forum was gone.

Yeah...and I'm going to march up and down Main Street nude, wrapped only in a burning American flag, stringing a gaggle of child-corrupting homosexuals pissing on the Constitution behind me if we discontinue it!!!
But, seriously...I don't remember that the politics forum was as active before...maybe it was. But it seems like people are maybe more vested in it this time around. I dunno. I just see this stuff still coming up, regardless if there's a forum for it. At least if there's a forum for it, people can choose not to go there if they're not interested, and it's not mixed in with the rest of the topics.

It was....that's why I got banned twice.

Well, since you haven't been banned 3 times, I'll assume things are at a dull roar, then. ;)

I like the politics thread. Its really the only thread on here where I actually learn something. I would love to hear the opinions of our international posters more tho. Its not often I, personally, get the chance to interact with people in diff countries and I'd like to see what they think...besides what I hear on the news.

I like the politics forum. I read it more than I post there, but its interesting to see both sides, or multiple sides to different issues. Helps keep me somewhat informed.

It IS mixed in with the rest of the topics depending on how you search.
You all already know my vote. I feel VERY strongly for wanting it removed all together.

to be perfectly honest, it is a little intimidating for this non-american to be treading that territory. i feel like i should be borrowing bigboom's flame suit before i go in there.

No kidding, SM. I do not think some people want to hear anything but the same old US party line.
You know what? If you want to talk politics do it offline. PM each other. Get in touch with each other. How old fashioned! I'd rather talk where my comments will not be censored.
I am making myself scarce as I have made a sudden deliberate decision to get a fucking life off the boards.
Cheers!

Honestly, having the politics thread keeps political discussions from hijacking other threads. Its gonna come up regardless. Might as well just have it where it belongs.

This is exactly what I mean by it not being mixed in with the rest of the topics. Even if you do a new threads search, it still shows what forum the threads are on. and1grad is right, if there's no forum for it, the disussions will just crop up on other threads, in other forums.
We're keeping it for now, so the subject is closed.

I leave for two days and this comes up?
I just wanted to say that I do think the politics thread should remain. The view points of others has helped me out so much throughout the last coupla months. I think it's vitally important for us to see other opinions and reactions to current events.....yeah, I'm not always in my little comfort zone while posting there- but it's for the better. It (and by it I mean Ck, WB, Dietzy, Paige )has definitely helped me define my views on things....
I'm the first to admit that for the most part I surround myself with others who think like I do and have the same views that I do- but on here, I have contact with those who do not. IMO it's a good learning experience.

I'm pretty much surrounded at all times by people of opposite views from mine, due to where I live. But I find the politics thread valuable because when people have different views and can articulate them, I learn from that. Most of the people I'm surrounded by can't/don't, really. So it's a good resource for me, too.
