View Full Version : Message from Abby
Hi! This is my new screen name (for now) - qlc experienced some technical difficulties over the weekend.
Soon I will be off to married land, and more importantly Mexico, where I will be taking a much needed vacation/honeymoon.
In my absence, the boards will continue to be monitored by my dependable, superstar moderators.......in case you haven't figured it out already I have decided it is time to 'out' them to give them the recognition they deserve...dadadum...(drum roll):
Pisces2473
and
Weirdbrake
Lets give them a hand for all their hard (volunteer) work and dedication, I don't know what I'd do without those 2!
Happy posting, be back here in a couple weeks as Mrs. Miller!

damn, i clean out the litter boxes and 3 pages to this thread already! i think WB emailed me a few months ago saying that i guessed both correct on that "Guess the Mods" thread we had a while back ago. i belong to a boating message board and its actually posted who the mods are...weird!
MetFanL
11-08-2004, 03:06 PM
WB told me a week or so ago, but I never got what the deal was with it being so secretive in the first place... On other boards, as kimmer said, the mods are usually posted at the top of the main page.
pisces2473
11-08-2004, 03:08 PM
It was secretive b/c when WB and I were asked, we were already well-established members of the community and just didn't want it to seem weird.
Is that the reason, WB? You were the mod before me. Then I was mod #1. Then you came back.

Every message board I've ever been on has the moderators known. This is actually the only one I'd ever been a member of where it was anonymous.

I liked the secret society feel of it.
MetFanL
11-08-2004, 03:17 PM
nah, not a big deal... it's understandable that you'd want to keep separate... even if it was just so you wouldn't have to be so careful with your posts under your "normal" screennames.
People on other boards have had issues with being called a hypocrite for posting something themselves and editing a similar comment from someone else, or bringing in personality differences to their moderating... It's a difficult line. I understand the separation b/c sometimes you just want to say what you're thinking rather than have to edit for content b/c you have the moderator tag on your screenname.

Is that the reason, WB? You were the mod before me. Then I was mod #1. Then you came back.
What happened was this: Abby created the mgp ("moderator guinea pig") identity as an experiment long before she made me a moderator. She created mgp in late fall of '02 but didn't have me take over the mgp role until early May '03. She told me to keep it on the down-low. I moderated until about mid-August of '03 and then because I was facing a tough semester with a number of law classes plus appellate moot court plus a trial advocacy course, I thought it would be better if someone else took over the reigns. So I suggested to Abby that Jen take over as mgp.
So in mid-August of '03, Jen took over as mgp, while I talked regularly with her behind the scenes about mod-related stuff. But I had no moderator powers at that point, so CK... Jen's the one who banned you, not me!
Then in March of '04, Abby created mgp2, and I took over that mod identity while Jen remained mgp.
Did I leave anything out, Jen? :D

Nope, I think you covered it there. Why did you end up coming back, WB? Was it b/c school got better or was that during a trying time...
And I'm the one who locked down the boards when that HORRIBLE racist day happened.

Hmm... I'd have to say I knew for a while... atleast back April or maybe even March (whenever the "Guess the Mods" thing started... WB PMed me under mpg2 about something we'd been talking about. Then I blackmailed him to tell me who the other one is  then I made him tell me what "MGP" stood for  which I had completely forgotten until now. :)
WeirdBrake
11-08-2004, 09:40 PM
That was a total accident! I had PMed Pluie something when I was extremely drunk (probably making fun of her engineering program), and whoops, I sent it through mgp2 rather than WB. That'll teach me to moderate under the influence.
She didn't blackmail me, though. I told her out of the goodness of my (somewhat intoxicated) heart.

Just curious - what happened on the horrible racist day?
pisces2473
11-09-2004, 10:19 AM
Someone "innocently" posted about her job, which was a welfare to work program, and commented about certain racial groups and how they were lazy and sat around all day and didn't want to help themselves, etc. People either jumped on her for her racial comments, or they went along with her and provided more fuel to the fire. Things escalated to the point where it was a disaster.

Yo' judges, listen up!
This all started on a Saturday night
When my client was out there lookin' for a fight
Now granted, maybe homie aint the nicest guy
But he don't got a record and that shit don't lie
He just out there on his own, committin' the sin
Of partyin' too heavy with a darker skin
Gettin' into scrapes, now don't believe the hype
My client aint a bad guy, he just the fightin' type
Now the Constitution says cops gotta use precision
They aint allowed to use race just to up their suspicion
Gotta be some evidence he breakin' the laws
Before the dicks go and have their probable cause
But these cops go decidin' somethin' didn't smell right
And on the basis of that, they opened up their lights
Stormed into his crib and started givin' him flak
For his decked out meth lab and his vials of crack
Then they wanna go and charge my client with wrong
But no prosecutor shoulda NEVER sang that song
No one ever said my client is all wholesome and kissable
But all that drug shit they found is just flat out inadmissible
Can't enter stuff you got from violatin' his rights
A jury can't see it, no matter how much it bites
When they go in someone's home without no justified reason
The evidence is cursed with constitutional treason
And when convictions are based upon evidence cursed
Then, on appeal, my brothers: You must reverse!
