i've officially broke it off with the boyfriend, so i am single again. not sure how i feel about it, as it sucked to hurt his feelings. however, i am somewhat happy to find that i have ZERO desire to date at all. i am going to fly solo for quite a while. i don't even want to meet any guys. plus now i have ALL THIS TIME!!! i signed up for a new gym membership, so i'm sure i'll be working out more now that my time is committed to no one but myself. i can do whatever i damn well please and not have to take anyone else into consideration.

it is kind of great. actually, i am feeling a bit guilty about how great i am beginning to think it is.

This brings up an awkard social question, how do you respond to the news of a break-up? Are you supposed to say "congratulations" or "I'm sorry" or "Oh, that sucks."

I hope things turn out well for you. It sounds like they will.

Now, most importantly, how does your hair look?

Don't feel guilty. Embrace it!

I know this sounds horrible, but I usually feel a huge sense of relief when I break up with somebody. I'm like "phew...thank God that is done". It is always easier to be the dumper because you know the break up is coming. Chances are you already had a chance to mourn the loss of this person. That is why it just feels good to be free now.

I've never broken up w/ someone, I'm the one who always gets broken up with. *sigh*

Anyways, sounds like you made the right decision, kit.

Sometimes it is a relief to end relationships...

I know in my long-term relationship the day after I ended it I was extremely happy. It was as if a huge weight was lifted. I felt bad that I was so happy about it.. but it was the best for both of us. We both held on for waaay too long. I gave up a lot to be with him and was really happy to rediscover all the things I ended up giving up.

The post-break up stage is a HUGE adjustment but it really changes you (in lots of good ways).

Congratz on getting all of this freedom, I hope you have a lot of fun with it!

Do any of you guys get a big boost in energy for a few days after you break up with someone? Three of the most pumped-up days of my life was the weekend after I had been dumped by a girl I was really into. And about a month ago, I was in the midst of a really stressful and hectic situation (which I almost quit business school over) and got dumped at about the worst point in the situation. However, the emotional boost I got was the only thing that got me through the rest of the week (even if I might still have to quit business school)...

ah but asexuality does not negate any form of self pleasure...it just means you really dont need the other sex ;)

like for me...i could care less right now whether i find an SO, im happy with my free time and lifestyle, how long it stays like this who knows but i enjoy it now and thats what matters.

kinda like in star wars where yoda talks about luke always looking to the future and not focusing on the present...im focusing on the present :p

I have absolutly no idea what you are talking about..... at all.

After getting dumped by a girl i was VERY serious about, I was devistated. Energy? Yes.... but it was all nervous energy. Ya I couldn't sit down, but I couldn't think either. I pulled a few forest gumps and just ran out the door and to the park and back a few times. Didn't even put on shorts, just in my jeans.

I have no idea what you mean by "emotional boost". Burning energy maybe, but only to distract myself. I couldn't focus on school at all.

I've heard that, from previous ex's, but the most recent one said somthing differant.

I think it depends if you do it for reasons of "Ok, I just don't want this now" or reasons of comming to terms with the fact that the relationship isn't working, perhaps the incompatibilities are too big to ignore any longer. The latter would involve more mourning. I know the ONE time I actually got to be the dumper, it was more like the former that you describe you having now.

I've definitely had that burst of energy, the weight being lifted. The last relationship I was in though, it did not work that way. It was a long, drawn-out breakup that I knew was needed but couldn't actually go through with. But once I got over it all, I had so much fun! Now I look back at how miserable I was and vow to never, ever allow myself to be in a situation like that again.

Hey Kitalyn

Have you ever heard someone say "for realz" (in the plural form). I heard a couple people a long time ago say it , and I got into it. Where did it originate? Will Smith started "true that" from his song "Just the Two of Us" , but who came up with "for realz". I was just wondering, that's all.

I always say "for reals." I don't know who I picked it up from, but I say it.
