Hello all.

I've been lurking at this board on and off in spurts for a couple of months now and this seems like an awesome community of people. Hopefully I'll start posting on a regular basis.

Well, back to this issue. I need some ideas for a birthday present for my significant other.

My particular problem is, what do you get someone who already has or gets everything she wants herself (that I can afford).

That, with the fact that I just moved out and now have living expenses.

I feel like a horrible person for not being able to think of anything, but I'm really at a loss.

She's not into gadgets (well, not after I got her a ipod mini last year), has lots of clothes (but then again, I guess one can never have too much clothing), and is into designer bags (which, as I said earlier, she usually gets the ones she wants on her own).

Any ideas or comments?

Thanks.

jdoe

have you thought of doing a romantic night for her. take her to see a play or something bring her home have a romantic dinner, a little wine.. I don't know about most girls, but I know for me its the thought behind the gift that counts more than the actual gift itself

Tina is right. If she has enough money to buy everything that she wants the only thing left for you to do is give her a unique experience. I like the idea of a nice dinner and some sort of concert/theater something.

Once my ex-boyfriend dressed up in a really nice suit and came to my door with a dozen long stem roses. Then he took me out and had the whole night planned. It was one of the greatest things ever. It was totally and completely unexpected. I loved it.

I have to agree with everyone else :) I've never been good at gifts, but I've found a little planning and execution of a romantic evening has gone a long way.

I think sometimes the romantic plans are better gifts. But then again, anything that comes in a Tiffany's box is usually a pretty good gift too!

I was in Hallmark one day and I over heard the sweetest thing ever. This guy was going to different stores and leaving a clue and a rose. This girl was going to get home and there would be a rose on the table and a clue to the next place. She would get a clue and rose from that store, plus like a small gift. I think he bought a card to leave at Hallmark to leave the next clue in. Anyway, by the time she reached the destination, which was her favorite restaraunt she would be met by him with the final rose ( and of course he was proposing, but I think it could work for a birthday too). I just always thought that was the most romantic thing I had ever heard of.

The only thing that I don't like about that is that she is going on the scavenger hunt by herself. It would be better if they could be doing something together.

thats true, but its the mystery behind it, the anticipation that is what makes it so great

Yup..the thought and effort and planning behind some kind of special activity means more than something purchased ever will, at least to me.

I can't even explain how much I agree with you on that!

LOL! Are you my twin? ;)

But I agree with everyone who said it's the thought behind the present that counts. A think a nice, special evening would probably mean a lot more to your GF than some random gift.

Since we're on the topic of non-materialistic gifts, what is a good romantic gift for a guy? I want to do something creative and thoughtful, but I'm having a hard time coming up with any ideas. I'm not exactly the most crafty person in the world. Plus, I don't want to do anything too corny. Any ideas?
