Callie and I are going to see Alexander tomorrow! I've been waiting forever to see it. I'm hoping to pick up a few tips and pointers on how to conquer the world....then I'll use my new knowledge to impart it upon my Sooners in time for their bowl game against USC in Miami.

Has anyone heard any reviews and is anyone else planning on seeing it?

i think colin farrell is absolutely useless as an actor and the film has been terribly miscast. angelina jolie is one year older than colin farrell and she is playing his mother. hello? also, is it just me or is her accent absolutely ridiculous?

anyway, i've heard it is a whopping pile of crap, but then again... i'm not into blockbusters. so, if you like that sort of thing... then who knows?

i thought "national treasure" was a steaming pile when i read the script, but it was #1 last weekend. i'm not very in touch with the public's tastes i guess.

sorry if i rained on your parade! :p

if anyone is interested in some (according to me) good films... check out "sideways" and/or "kinsey." both are great!

Yeah Sideways looks good. I plan on seeing that this week..I saw the preview for it in The Motorcycle Diaries which was great.

I am a little iffy about seeing Alexander. It's sort of falling in the same category as King Arthur for me. I didn't see King Arthur and I heard I didn't miss much.

I think the marketing for the movie has something to do with it. Alexander trailer and commercials aren't really getting me excited to watch it like Troy and Gladiator did.

i read in a paper here that the greeks are quite angry about the movie because they've made alexander "too gay."

not sure what that means.. but whatever! im sure i'll catch it on video or something..

Well, they cleaned all the gayness right out of Troy...

My brother saw the movie and he said it was pretty bad...he actually walked out on it.

I've heard that it is horrible. I'll probably end up seeing it anyway since I'm a big Angelina Jolie fan. It can't be any worse than Tomb Raider.

Here's what you've all waited for this weekend: My review of this film.

THIS IS THE WORST FILM IN THE HISTORY OF MAN. THIS WAS THE WORST MOVIE EXPERIENCE I'VE EVER HAD. DO NOT SEE THIS AWFUL MONSTROSITY OF A MOVIE.

DID I MENTION THAT THIS FILM WAS HORRIBLY GOD-AWFUL BAD???

I can't say I'm exactly shocked and amazed, but what specifically was so horrid about it, out of curiosity? I let my EW subscription lapse, so I'm not in the know.

First, apparently all Macedonians and Greeks had Irish lilts.

Second, there is NO dramatic inquiry....we're going to battle....and then battle some more...then some more....until we don't....

The battle scenes are confusing and suck.

There is NO character development of anyone....even Alexander. There is NO insight into his thoughts and his motives and his beliefs......just him battling.

There is actually a line by Ptolemy, the narrator, where he says, "We got to India. There we fought an army of small, hairy men who lived in the trees for four weeks. It was then we learned they were not men at all...but animals, and we called them monkeys." Well WTF??? What kind of army have you got when you are fighting monkeys for 4 WEEKS?!?!? And your enemies that you beat in ONE DAY???? What kind of army did THEY have???

Angelina Jolie was HOT! But WTF??? Is she the same age as her son, Alexander??? Sure looks like it to me.

NO exploration of Alexander's psychosis and paranoia.

And ALRIGHT!!! We get it! He likes Men! A lot!!!! We do not need to stop the battle scene so that he and Jared Leto can look longingly into each other's eyes. Move ON already!

It is important that you know how bad this movie is.

I ALSO say National Treasure.......3.5 stars on a scale of 4!!!! Very entertaining....and you don't have to work hard to be entertained either.....very good movie!

As drudgereport called it: Alexander the Flop.

I'm just wondering what you even saw the trailer CK? It looked bad even then!

I think we've had enough of the Russell Crowe Gladiator type movies....

Alexander's is a GREAT STORY. Oliver Stone CAN NOT tell it. I thought the story would prop itself up to make for an entertaining film...oh hell no.

I can't tell you how much this movie sucked.

He fought monkeys for 4 weeks, people!!!! Monkeys!!! It was like watching monkeys humping a football....that's more like what happened.

It sucked bad.

Go rent Gigli...you'll like it way better.

I didn't see Alexander, but I really enjoyed Nat'l Treasure too. I really liked the way they tied in the American history (although of course a lot of it was made up). Usually these adventure movies take place all over the world in these exotic places, but Nat'l Treasure had all this stuff going on in DC and Trinity Church in NYC, which was really cool.

My friend dragged me to see Alexander this weekend. I was really worried after reading how it got F's from most critics. And I absolutely agree with CK. It was SOOOOOOOO Bad!!! Do not waste your money!!

Hey CK-You know the part when COlin Farell is talking to his troops before they go into that first huge battle, and suddenly the camera zooms up to the sky and focuses in on the Eagle's eye while Alexander's words fade away? And then slowly zooms back down to the battle? WTF?!?! My friend and I burst out laughing. In fact, many theatre-goers did!

The story was SO confusing. They jumped around and never explained anything well. There were HUGE gaps. The acting was melodramatic and the dialogue sucked ass. I read a review defending the accents, saying that in that time and place people had a variety of accents.....but IRISH?!?! Hmmm.......

Seriously people.....go see "Finding Neverland" which was FANTASTIC! Or "Sideways" which was also wonderful. "The Incredibles" was also awesome. But I want my money back for "Alexander".

That bothered me far less than WHEN HE FOUGHT MONKEYS FOR FOUR WEEKS!!!!!!!!!

And how about when he sends the Macedonians home from India and says, "And I.....I will continue on.....WITH MY ASIANS!!!!"

WORST FILM EVER!!!!!!!

Ck,

So what you are saying is that you and Callie are going to have an "Alexander" themed wedding and give copies of the DVD out to your guests?

Speaking of which, did you guys set a date?

Crimson King II
11-29-2004, 07:01 PM
NO....NO Alexander at my wedding.

We have not set a date...we did discuss that we want a long engagement, so it will be at least December of 2006, possibly Spring or Summer of 2007. That will also give her time to find out whether she's got to go back to Dallas full time, etc....

But I'll keep everyone up to date.
