View Full Version : For those who work in retail/restaurants, is day after Thanksgiving your worst day?

While I was at the restaurant (which now, oddly enough, shut down not long ago), I usually dreaded the Thanksgiving to New Year's period, as the never-ending Christmas music and some of the customers just gets on my nerves.

I won't mention about pay either...

It is not to mention also that certain days to get blacked out, but that would be for another thread.

I'm working in a seasonal retail position right now because the job I was hoping for hasn't come through yet due to union issues. It sucks - I have been listening to Christmas music for two weeks already - the customers ask you the price of everything even though the sign is right in front of them, and the pay stinks. Sorry, am I being negative? :) I am dreading tomorrow...

i worked retail for three years after i graduated college. three hellish black fridays in a row. carson pirie scott wasnt so bad because people used large bills and used credit cards, but claires was the worst. i had to count so many one dollar bills. it made me want to stab myself in the eyeball. and it took me till darn near midnight to do that. so dont ever work at claires. they pay crap and because there are so many kids you have to count up evil small bills.

to this day i really cant stand christmas music., and i also get my christmas shopping done before black friday.

In high school I worked at Walmart and I lucked out and would always get the PM shifts on Black Friday. It just involved a LOT of cleaning up.

In college I worked at restaurants, and Black Friday wasn't such a big deal. Mothers Day was the WORST by FAR!

How are all you working in jobs affected by the holiday's faring?

I just started my holiday job at Kohl's yesterday. Well, did 8 hours of computer training yesterday. Today learned the cash register and was on that for 5 hours. We were steady the whole day... I've been dreading doing this since I got the job. I've never worked retail before, but I haven't been able to find anything else. At least it's just seasonal....

It just got worse, we now have carolers (choir from a local high school) on the weekends as well as Santa. I don't think I can take much more! The day after Thanksgiving actually wasn't too bad, it was Saturday that sucked - people probably thought they would be avoiding the crowds by going a day later. :)
