My biggest pet peeve in the workfoce is people who micro-manage. It is the most annoying way to deal with people, EVER.

My boss will tell me to do something, and then if I haven't done it within like 3 hours she'll come back to remind me again. Even if the due date isnt for a long time. She just can't rest until she knows i've done it or something. She is CONSTANTLY hounding me over the smallest details.

I watch other people around here micro-manage people beneath them and it is so infuriating. If I ever become someone's boss this is the last way I'd ever want to work with someone. It is so unproductive and belittling.

I hope to God I never get an employment situation like this, because besides it just not suiting my temperament, I've not had a job yet where this was the norm. So I'm very used to just being left alone to do my work with no checking up. I'd probably snap.

Kitty you think that's bad...in my office, the managers monitor our phone calls, IM's, emails and internet activity. I know a lot of offices do that or SAY they do that, but ours actually does. They'll send out mass emails to the whole department saying, "so and so made 40 outbound calls yesterday..great job. For those of you who made less, we hope we don't have to mention your names too"....LOL, it's like a big JOKE. Who the f**k can make 40 outbound calls in one day! They do it to provoke us to work...hello, that's not motivating people!! I hate micromanagers too:)

That sucks. I kind of deal with that now. My boss is constantly looking over my shoulder. She comes in my cube about every 15 minutes and asks what I'm doing and look at my screen and point to different things around my desk and ask what they are and how far I am on them. I feel like killing her.

Ahhh...the dreaded cube! I'm right there with you. Luckily, I've gotten very good at changing what's on the screen really fast when someone walks in!! It's like a talent now.

I'm to the point of not even caring when she sees that i'm not being efficient. I've been like this for the last couple of months and its been pissing her off..

Kind of fun to watch. I just totally stopped caring about my job.

I'm micro-managed like CRAZY by my supervisor. SHe reads my email checks how much I'm online i'm sure and well she just sucks and has made my life a living hell. Shit I"m even monitored when I'm NOT at work with my company reading certain websites it's awful.

Ugh, my former editor was a micro-manager. He had a definite agenda in mind for our paper and had very specific ideas on how we should write our stories. It annoyed me to no end. I know I'm still young and inexperienced and have a lot to learn, but I can handle my job, thanks very much. My new editors give me complete creative freedom. It's awesome.

I don't know how you guys are able to stand that. Besides giving me crazy advice regarding my boyfriend and STDs (see thread: What is this woman talking about?), she pretty much just stays out of my hair. It is heavenly.

I hear ya. I hate being told what to do. If I need help or advice, I will ask for it.

In my experience, bosses who micromanage don't have enough of their own work to do.

I detest being micromanaged. I refuse to allow it. In fact, my boss now micromanages pretty much everyone EXCEPT me. She'll try it with me when she's on one of her mental states, but it doesn't usually last very long.

How did you pull that off?

I've always kind of put up with it because I'm really pretty relaxed for the most part and I dont want to annoy my boss in any way or get her on my bad side because I honestly think she's mentally insane and I don't want to have to deal with the stress and madness that comes along with her anger fits. But, now that I'm leaving I am kind of speaking up more. Yesterday when she started harassing me about something I was like, "It's going to get done, its on my list of things to do. You can stop worrying and you don't need to ask me again."

Felt good.

holy crap, do I agree! My office manager - I have to specify because we have 10 managers in the office - is Lumburg from the movie. I swear. The man has a cup of coffee surgically attached to his hand and he stands in the doorway to my cube (*shudder*) and will just STARE.

And then he starts talking...r..e..a..l..l..y, r..e..a..l..l..y.....s....l....o....w....l....y.

I want to just throttle the man. Ask me the question, yell at me, or tell me to get it done - just get out!

It's gotten to the point where I'll mimic his behavior patterns - slow speech, tilting my head, funny facial expressions - when talking to him. It keeps me sane and I can manage to get through at least two of his micro-managing sessions a day.

My company reads websites like this one particular website that I posted an ad saying I was looking for a job, not saying I worked for ABC company, but that I was looking and apparentl one of my stupid evil customers passed it along to the directory of my department. But from what i hear they read this site regularly.
