Well, I guess this is a good place to start. My quarterlife crisis started when I finished college even more so when I finished playing football. I felt empty, unclear of what I would do without the one thing I had defined myself by for the last 16 years of my life. I knew that trying to be a free agent would be merely prolonging the inevitable so I stopped. Just walked away, well put it like this I was more scared then anaything. So I went to Grad school, just another prolongation of being an adult. I loved grad school but when I graduated I was still empty and confused, no job, no football and a whole lot of people telling me I have so much potential. Fast forward I have a job, a job. Its not bad but its not the all end. I desire to help people through my service and speaking but I have no clue how to do it. So times just passes by with me at this desk, wishing and hoping. Well taht is my story..Thanks for listening

Hi and welcome. The good thing about this site is that there's always someone who's going through what you are and is willing to offer some insight.

Case in point, I'm in the same boat as you are right now. My situation is slightly different because I don't currently have a job. But I too want to help people and have no idea where to start...or at least I didn't until someone here was gracious enough to give me this website that lists a whole load of volunteer opportunities as well as nonproft job postings.

www.idealist.org

Check it out and see what you find. It's a nationwide database so I'm sure they'll have opportunities near you.

What's your degree in? And just curious but what position did you play?

I too understand what you are going through. I participated in an activity called color guard for 16 years. I just recently stopped teaching which I have been doing for 6. I loved it, but found that I had ignored or not realized other passions that I had in life in general. To sit behind a desk would drive me crazy, that is why I am a therapist because it is something new everyday. Just find something that MAKES YOU HAPPY And fulfulled. IMO that is best advice I can give. good luck

Hey Everyone,

I think we can all relate. Once college...and even graduate school...are in the past, one is left with the question, "what next?" It seems there are few "big steps" left to take in life, other than marriage or having a family. But don't worry, there's still hope!

I am 23, finished grad school last summer, and am now happily employed with a nonprofit. I noticed somebody posted www.idealist.org as a good website for job hunting---that's how I found my current job. So I can attest to the fact it works! If you're in the Chicago area, www.npo.net is another good site.

I've found a big difference between working for a privately held company and an npo...ahem...23 paid days off my first year...and 28 days next year...not to mention awesome benefits. The salary is less, but all of the perks plus the fulfillment makes it worth my time. I hope I can inspire some of you to come over the public sector!

Thanks for the information, my degree is in Speech Communications of course. I played wide receiver. It was not my position of choice but I fell in love with it after a while. How is your job search going its tough I know but its always a light at the end of the tunnel. I was unemployed for almost four months, Then I worked for my uncle, cut my wrist installing a window and finally found an internship that lead me to my current position.
