View Full Version : Gross guy at gym

So for the last couple weeks there's been this really gross guy that goes to my gym--he's a little bit older and unclean looking (not that older matters), he doesn't wear deodorant and stinks to high heavens (let me emphasis that he STINKS!!!!), and he throws his coat and stuff on the floor in between the machines. Sometimes he doesn't wipe down his machine after.
I'm so grossed out by this guy that I can't even fake politeness. I try to go when he's not there, but our time usually overlaps and yesterday I had to use the machine he was one (I didn't care how rude I was, I wiped it down BEFORE I used it). Plus it's usafe that he throws his stuff on the floor, when there are locker rooms.
I want to say something to either him or the staff, but I don't know how to do it tactfully. Any suggestions?

You need to let the staff handle this. No need to have a confrontation with this guy personally. That's what the staff is paid to do, and he can get in big trouble for not wiping down the machines. The staff at your gym (if they're worth a damn) will be pissed to find out he's not sanitizing after using. I'd inform them next time you go in. Don't wait.

Oh my gosh, tell the staff. At my gym, they WANT to know about this stuff and they have no probs telling the people they are pigs, they smell, whatever. There was an article on MSN the other day about gym ettiquette, it was pretty good. Every gym should follow those rules.

Yeah, definitely say something to the staff. Most gyms have posted rules and he seems to be violating ALL of them. Mine doesn't allow bags on the gym floor, and requires you to wipe down all equipment after use. Talk to the manager and let them handle it.

My gym is odd. When I joined, I didn't notice at first, but they don't have the sprayer things all around. They have one in the way back corner of the place. I wipe down and get the spray, but most people don't bother. It's actually more unusual to see someone wiping down!
There's a guy there who always moans and groans while on a machine, creepy.

There's one guy at my gym who wears REALLY tight bike shorts and another guy who always LOUDLY snaps his gum. Annoying.

I guess I will have to say something. Usually I have no problem with this, but I just joined the gym a month ago and don't want to be a problem already.
I also think it's funny when guys (usually not even big guys) grunt loud enough for the whole gym to hear. The best is when they're barely lifting anything at all.

At my work gym I can hear them grunting when I'm in the locker room, yet they don't grunt when I'm outside using the machines. Do they think I can't hear them from the locker room?

There's one guy in my exercise class, and everyone else is female. This guy wears nothing but a tight Speedo, which shows all kinds of details. His penis and testicles bob up and down when he walks. He's totally comfortable with it, but I have to struggle not to look. It's kind of like when you pass a car wreck....something dark inside you wants to look.

Hysterical. Plus, if I had to be subject to that, I'd have to look to.

I've found gyms to be - ironically enough - some of the most counterproductive and downright *unhealthiest* places that one can spend time at. For several reasons, some of which have just been mentioned.

Thanks tarty. I knew I wasn't alone, but it's comforting to hear others admit it too. :)

Oh my god! My gym has a "speedo guy" too! And I think he's seriously insane. He wears this paisley speedo and sits in the sauna for HOURS. I am not even kidding, its so dangerous. He sits his sweaty ass on a kickboard (I haven't used one since) and just sweats for hours and hours making a huge puddle. And he talks constantly, whether he's adressing someone or just himself, he just babbles-usually about all the weight he's lost by sitting in the sauna for 6 hour stretches and eating only raw vegetebles. (I don't see it-he's got a huge potbelly!) When he is there, there will be somewhere around five to ten people huddled on one side of the sauna just to not have to talk to this creepy sweaty speedo guy. eeeeeew!
