i spend at least half an hour on the treadmill a day running fast (5.4 mph) at a grade of five listening to 'load me up' by the matthew good band, 'alive' by ryan adams, 'over my dead body (or whatever it's called) by radiohead, and a lot of pixies.
the high energy of the songs takes my anxiety away from me as i live in the moment of energy pumping my body along, moving harder, faster, can't stop it's a rush and nothing else matters.
after that i shower sauna shower and go on my merry way.
drinking does not help, nor does junk food.
but eating sunflower seeds in front of the television when there's something mindless and good on (sex in the city, etc) is also good...ohh and don't forget chick literature (anything by Marion keyes- i recommend Sushi for beginners and Lucy sullivan is getting married).
i haven't had a bf since april and i'm actually surviving despite how much i loved cuddling with him.
qlc is also a great relaxer, i've been known to just sit at my computer and zone out for hours on qlc...as well as msn messenger...
gosh see there you go, lots of options to calm down...
ohh i also sometimes take valerian root which calms me down considerably.
and catnip tea, quite nice...herbs are great.
and if you know anyone with rescue remedy (it's got a bunch of flower essences) it helps to put a drop of it on your tongue if you're overly anxious.
there...who needs prozac eh?

Some things I do to calm myself down is to listen to upbeat music to dance to, that usually cheers me up. When I did exercise it did help calm my nerves down & I know I should get back into exercising soon. Another thing is to call a friend up, but it's frustrating since either I get their voice mail, or my friend is too busy to talk & says she'll call later, but doesn't. Those are some things I do to feel calm.

reading or exercise. i do a complete check out mentally when i am reading. i like to get absorbed in the world of the book when i am upset in the real world. it takes my mind off things. i find exercise is good when i am angry. you can physically exhaust the aggression out of you.

I agree with exercising. I know I feel great in the spring and summer because I'm outside exercising more and playing tennis or another sport/game.
Listening to music is great since you can find almost anykind online to match your mood.
The most important thing to do to be calm? Do something *you*
find enjoyable.
I love playing my new computer games, like You Don't Know Jack with someone...
Go outside and play!

I will do pretty much any of the things previously mentioned, or I'll put in one of my "comfort" movies (the ones that I watch all the time that put me in a good mood). Friends also counts under that category (the show).

valium, xanax, or whatever is in the same family...all central nervous system depressants. you'll want them...but when you don't have them...watch out sista.
watch out. that's not real peace.

Reading a good book I can't put book is another way that calms me down. If my mind is distracted or I'm bored at work I'll bring a good book.

I do different things. Bubble bath (except I haven't turned to that lately because I am without a tub), listen to music, exercise, or vent.

Usually after a good exersize and a shower, a glass of red wine and a movie usually does the trick. And you'll sleep wonderfully after.

LOL, shim...
I work out -- run, lift, dance, pilates.
If I do all of that and I'm still a mess, the only thing that works is a nice long visit with my dogs.

I don't usually get mad. Most of my needing to calm down comes from stress. I'm not good at managing it, either. Because most of it springs from being overloaded, dropping all the things that are stressing me to take the time to go do something to try to decompress actually stresses me out more. I never feel like I have enough time, always feel behind, so taking extra time to go work out or read a book or watch TV or something only makes me feel more anxious, like I just wasted valuable time and am now MORE behind. I do sometimes come here for some escape...I rationalize it because I can pop back and forth between QLC and what I'm working on.
