Anybody else ever been or going this year? If you don't know, it's a big 2 day music fest in the middle of the desert 2 hours outside of LA. Last year Radiohead, The Cure, and The Pixies headlined. This year its Coldplay and NIN. I had a bomb ass time last year and will be going again in spite of the high cost of it all.

Yeah, I've heard of it, I've never been though. They are giving away tickets on our local radio station though.

i'd love to go this year. sounds like a lot of great bands & fun.

i went two years ago. we camped at joshua tree (which was awesome) and went to only one day of the show. my major complaint, and probably why i wouldn't go again, was the weather. it was so EFFING HOT during the day and then freezing windy at night. the beastie boys played the closing set during which the wind blew one of mix master mike's records off the turntable. i was pretty drunk and stoned before we got there, so i could hardly stand the heat... very uncomfortable. however, black eyed peas were awesome... they played "let's get retarded" way before anyone had ever heard it or the album was released and everyone went CRAZY for this song we had never heard before.
i don't think i'd spend the money to go again, but they have started promoting it on the radio here, and i was thinking of trying to win tickets.

I say try to win the tickets. Last year it sold out(50k tickets per day) and tickets were selling for a ton on Ebay. It was 105 degrees both days last year, my god, but it was so worth it. I got back to my hotel room the first night at 2am and promptly passed out. Woke up the next morning at 7am with a fully cold uneaten hamburger in my left hand and the TV remote in my right hand.
Ate the burger, cleaned up, rounded up the crew and headed back for day 2. Good times.

from our campsite... i would say it was about 30-45 minutes while riding stoned in the backseat of an '82 suburban. :p
sorry... couldn't resist. anyway, i don't know the exact distance. it took us a while to get to the festival though.

hmm, not sure if they'd really want a bloody testicle & i don't think it'd be worth $150 anyways

Coachella not worth the 150$ ticket price? Depends on how much you love the bands who are playing and who you go with really. I had to create some entertainment from the trip that made it all unforgettable.
Dancing between cars during a 4 hour traffic jam.
Falling asleep in the beer tent and waking up surrounded by people I don't know and chatting them up.
Hearing Muse for the first time in my half asleep state only to fully wake up after their set was done and wonder who the fuck that was.(Now my favorite band)
Standing in a crowd of 20,000 people shoulder to shoulder, chest to back, and all of you cheering for Radiohead after an amazing rendition of Karma Police.
Jostling for position to touch Wayne Coyne's bubble as he walked on the crowd during the Flaming Lips set.
Getting my rave-on in the electronica tent.
Putting a hottie on my shoulders so she could get a good shot of Tim Kasher during Cursive's set.
Passing out only to wake up and do it again the next day...

i love music festivals
ederratic - your post may me miss them. i haven't gone to one in a good year & a half. i used to live for live music.
i spent 15 hours one year in a traffic jam trying to leave a festival. it was madness- slept some, played some, got stoned & drunk a lot, drove not so much

It's been a while since I've been to a decent music festival. Used to go to edgefest every year on canada day.
My brother told me about this coachella thing though, he's got friends that have gone and appherently it's a complete cattle-fest.
