My friend from college is getting married on Sunday February 20th. The ceremony starts at 11AM with reception immediately following. The ceremony itself is at the catering place. All of my dresses that I would normally wear to a wedding are summer dresses. I really don't feel like spending a lot of cash on a new dress. Is it appropriate to wear nice black pants and some kind of pretty top? I am thinking the pants route because I am sure it is going to be freezing that day. The wedding is going to be in Long Island. I welcome all your ideas of something that would look cute. Feel free to post links. If I do end up getting a dress it will probably be something black. I will also need shoes too. Grrrrrrrr!!!!! I hate this stuff!!!!!

How about a new top and new shoes? Especially a gorgeous yet versatille pair of shoes that can be worn again and again.

i think it's totally acceptable to wear pants and a nice top...i went to a wedding right before christmas. it was so cold that day...i wore dressy black pants i already had, cute heels, and a really nice sweater that i bought to wear for the wedding. you can always dress up your outfit w/ accessories- pins, a great bag, necklace, etc.

I was thinking of getting a fun tube top, maybe in red with some kind of design or jewels or something like that. And I would wear big heels that day too. Also I haven't seen my friend in like, 5 years or something like that so I don't really want to shell out a whole lotta dough. My boyfriend is pissed cuz he has to buy a suit and is broke. Regarding him, I told him to just wear a nice pair of pants he already owns, a shirt and a tie and his nice winter coat. Is this acceptable? I am sure we will be placed at a back table anyways..........LOL...........

If you're going to do the tube top, I would wear some kind of satin-y or velvet-y dressy cropped jacket over it. You can probably get one onsale now while stores are clearing out their winter stock. Definitely do dressy/interesting shoes and a cute bag. I wouldn't go too nuts on the jewelry, though, b/c it's an 11 am ceremony. You don't want to look too "evening" and the black pants are already pushing you in that direction.

A matte jersey wrap dress or something like that would also be appropriate.

My cousin got married Jan. 3, 2003 at noon. I wore black pants which were sorta satiny w/ a drawstring, open toed heels, and this shirt that was black sheer with white embroidery (I wore a satiny camisole under it) and it looked fine.
