i'm planning a weekend "couples" trip to sonoma for a barrel tasting event in early march. just wondering if anyone has some suggestions as to which wineries are must-sees. we'll be in the russian river valley area.
also... do you think driving there from los angeles is too far?

Well, the driving part will take up a lot of the day, so you'll be tired when you arrive. But if you leave like on a friday after work or whatever, it should be ok. I drive from Santa Barbara to San Jose after work on fridays (takes like 4.5 hours) and its not too bad...boring by yourself, but you'll have friends.

You probly are looking at around 6 hours for that drive. Its not TOO bad. Timing will be everything. Friday in LA...yikes. Maybe u wanna PM h-town about wineries. She might know.

I "might" (extreme caution on that might) be moving up to that area so I'll keep ya posted on what I hear about good places to check out.

raffles... you are thinking of moving to northern cali or the wine country specifically?
also... which airport up there is the most convenient to get in and out of and up to sonoma? we're picking up our friends on the way up.

Yeah Oakland or San Jose isn't bad either, it has super easy freeway access.
Actually though, I've never been wine tasting. There are SO many wineries in Sonoma/Napa. But it sounds like you're gonna be in Sonoma. I wish I had info to give to you kita, but I've never been and I can't go now! :torn:
Six hours doesn't seem long enough to me, sorry. Are you leaving in the morning? Thing is, once you get up in the Silicon Valley part, you are gonna hit some of the ugliest traffic you have ever seen in your life, worse than Smell-A because the freeway is only 2-3 lanes in some places. But either Oakland or San Jose for airports- SF won't be that bad, it's just a lot bigger more cumbersome.

My vote would be Oakland Airport because its easy to get in and out of.
The job I interviewed for is in Santa Rosa, CA. That's Sonoma County. And the firm expects you to live there and be a contributing member of the community. Now, if they'd only get back to me on whether I have a job or not .... :frustrate

But like I said, I'll keep you posted on what I find out about the community and places to go/eat, so forth.

i'd think it would be longer than that.
i drove to napa from sf & it took 4 hours on the ways up there bc of traffic. i believe it was a friday afternoon. i am jealous. it is so beautiful up there.
raffles - what type of work will you be doing, exactly. i have been to santa rosa & the surrounding area a few times - midwifery conference, hot springs. it is also really pretty there. good luck with the job.
