I'm thinking of applying for a job in Concord. What can you tell me about Concord?

How funny I applied for a job in Concord, mass. It's not Emerson Hospital is it? :) Concord is a really nice town actually, but very very very expensive to live in and buy a house. It's not too far from boston and it's absolutely beautiful in the fall :)

I live in Acton, which is right next to Concord. It's definitely a historical town where Emerson, Henry David Thoreau lived, it's also the place where it was the turning point of the pre-revolutionary war. You can also visit Louisa May Alcott's house where she wrote Little Women. I don't know if you ever saw the movie Housesitter starring Goldie Hawn & Steve Martin. They filmed the movie in Concord. When I watched that movie I instantly recognize the places they filmed the areas in Concord. What company & job position are you applying in Concord?

housing in MA is obscenely expensive everywhere you go... even worse than in my nemisis city but I'd never admit that. ;)
If you're gonna live in MA, better to live closer to Boston than Providence or Western MA. Just make sure you don't mind cold weather because they have their fair share! :) Don't be freaked out if people drive 30 mph above the speeding limit.
And most important, give people a chance. Don't try too hard to be friendly to them, because that's not necessarily the way it is in new england. I have heard people from other parts of the country take new englanders as cold and rude... which some are of course, but most of them just take a liiiitle longer to open up and act friendly than people may in other parts of the country.
concord is a lot of rich democrats, a set that I myself do not necessarily see eye to eye with, but people like that tend to be really intellectual and interesting.

Lots of cold weather, expensive housing, and not really the young city life. But beautiful as well. Very New England.

I disagree. Boston's no new york, but there's still a lot, and a wide variety of, things to do and see there - definitely more than in the majority of US cities. a lot of my friends our age who live there love it and have a blast.

i used to work in concord. the summer after graduation i had an internship with concord public works, specifically the water department.
it is a quaint town. i lived in somerville & commuted 25 minutes or so. i recommend living closer to boston. i can't imagine concord being a great place for a young person to live. it's more of a family & old people place to settle. go swimming at walden pond in the summer.
what type of job are you applying for?

GetMeOuttaDC, I agree Boston is a fun, very young (because of all the colleges) city, but Concord, not so much!

Concord isn't THAT close to Boston. I mean, it's close, but not a quick trip. It's very small town, not built up, etc. I know I'd like it, but I'd also go to Boston a lot too.

Well, that's the deal with Massachusetts... Boston is a blast, but the suburbs and exurbs are quaint and sleepy.
Just because State is working in Concord, doesn't mean she has to live there.

I remember going to Concord when I was little on a field trip with my class. I wouldn't do that commute from Boston every day!

Concord from Boston takes about half an hr. This town like others is more towards couples who want to start a family or for senior citizens, not exactly for the young people, although not from far from Monument Sq. is Concord Academy. JFK Jr. Caroline Kennedy apparently went to Concord Academy. I knew a guy that was accepted into that school, but his family couldn't afford tuition. Ironic thing was he was really smart, but received no form of scholarship from there.

Hence the nickname, "M*ssholes." They're fine, though. Really. Also, buy more khaki pants. You can apparently never wear enough brown in Massachusetts. ;)

It's true there are "Massholes" drivers, a lot of them & I have to say I would be one of them.

Concord is great! My husband and I are thinking of buying a house there. If you love history and literature, there's not a cooler place. That being said, it is incredibly expensive and if you're single, there's probably not a lot going on. I certainly wouldn't want to live IN Boston and commute to Concord, but you could do it. It's a reverse commute so probably not bad.
