Okay, so I happened to pick up a copy of the Sunday paper, which I NEVER do, and i noticed this article on this INCREDIBLE company about an hour from where I live. let me share:

- fully paid health insurance for dependents and domestic partners – one employee paid $10 for her prenatal care and a C-section which would have run her $8,000 - she can cover herself, her son and husband for $100/month!!!!!!!!!
- on-site child care for nearly 700 children ($300/month)
- an on-site health care center with a 58-member staff. this is available at no cost to employees and at minimal charge to their dependents.
- an on-site recreation and fitness center that includes a 10 lane swimming pool, billiards tables, ping-pong tables, an aerobics center, rooms with weights and treadmills, volleyball courts, basketball courts, soccer fields, tennis courts and a putting green.
- break rooms- there’s one on every floor of every building stocked with complimentary soft drinks, juices, crackers, M&M’s, coffee, tea and first aid supplies. free fresh fruit every monday and breakfast goodies on friday.
- on-site services include a hair salon, massage therapy, car detailing, oil changes, dry cleaning and alterations, and a seasonal farmers market.
- 3 wks paid vacation plus an additional paid week off b/t x-mas and new year’s. after ten years you get a fourth week off.
- profit sharing retirement plan and 401(k)
- a sick policy that says if a parent has a sick child, the parent should stay at home.
- 3 subsidized cafes. one has a grand piano and one is in a palm tree filled atrium.
-2 full time employees responsible for buying or creating art for the buildings and grounds
-1 full time ergonomics specialist

Has been rated by Forbes as one of the 100 best places in the country to work (was ranked 2nd at one point) and appears on a similar list for Working Mother magazine

TURNOVER rate: less than 4%!!!!!!!!!!

Amount the company saves through reduced turnover: $80 million a year!!!!!
The company employees 4000 in NC and is situated on a 900-acre tree-studded campus in Cary, NC

Average income for salaried workers $90K
Average income for hourly workers $40K
***and think of ALL of the money you save on health club fees, subsidized food, day care, health insurance, etc*** one employee said he thinks all of the “extras” amount to about $25K per year per employee

The name of the company: SAS
Website: http://www.sas.com

Why aren’t there more companies like this out there?????? I am in awe!!!!!

Yeah, more companies need to think like this. A very long time ago my agency sent around a survey about whether employees felt they could benefit from a childcare center. Just think, if someone could write up a grant to get funding for that, and even if each employee who has a kid contributed even $100 a week, they could save tons. This is the biggest stressor I think on many employees. I doubt it would ever happen though, but that is just me being ultra pessimistic because I see firsthand daily all the gaps in our wonderful system. Luckily, my boss is very lenient when it comes to child-related issues. I am the only one by the way who doesn't have children in my program.

I think it makes complete sense. People are going to be better workers if they're happy, well-fed, healthy, have a pleasant family-life, etc. The more you give, the more you get. Plus, with all that, who's gonna want to quit, or f*ck up and get fired?
