Cause if you are, I'd like to pick your brain...

I'd love to talk with someone who is working in Human Resources (whether in USA or Canada - I don't think there's that much difference), in any capacity. I'm seriously thinking of entering the field eventually, and I would love to hear more about career options, working conditions, salaries, how to break in, what you like or dislike about it, etc. In short, I'd love to hear it all. I have some info on the career from the HR people in my office, but I'd like to get a broader perspective, and I know people here will be honest with me.

If you'd like to talk in private, please PM me. Whatever the choice, is ok with me. I just hope my call gets answered

Thank you!

I don't work in HR but know plenty o' people who do. And it took them a YEAR or more to find a job. This is definately a field that is flooded, especially in urban areas. My one friend who is an HR person at a large well-known corporation here in NYC also often has to work from the wee hours of the morning to well past midnite. Plus, if you do a search on the boards re: people's run-in's with HR people, they are not often very good. I don't wanna post my real thoughts about people that work in HR that I've run into cuz I don't wanna offend anyone on the boards.

Like Winney I don't work in HR, but I know a few ppl who do as well.

There are so many different avenues in HR. You can do recruiting/staffing/benefits/payroll/education etc. or you can do a bit of everything. There's a ladder to climb--usually there's a HR assistant, HR specialist, HR coordinator, HR advisor, HR generalist, HR manager, HR director..etc..depending on the company. The hours are pretty good--normal business hours. Everyone I know who is in it, likes it. The salary ranges...starting from 35K Cdn (working in Toronto with HR education and designation) as a coordinator or specialistand generalists (after 3-5 years) make 55+. Or you can start as a HR assistant (no HR education, or currently doing a program in HR) at 27-35K. There are quite a few opportunities in HR right now too.
