Here's my feedback. Not bitching specifically AT anybody (not administrator, mods, OR posters), just venting about a design issue that irks me to no end.

I HATE that if an original poster deletes their original post, all subsequent posts vanish...It bugs me that the OP can delete a whole thread, rather than just their individual posts.

Reasons being -

1. Often the thread has "wandered" to another topic, and you're deleting a conversation that is far removed from the one you started, which sucks for the people who were having the conversation.

and

2. It seems like a huge waste of time to post on a thread only to have it inexplicably deleted, especially (ahem) for those of us prone to long, thoughtful posts.

I know why the option for a poster to delete a thread he or she starts exists. I still hate it. Nails on a chalkboard.

I've said my piece.

It always makes me think that something's wrong, when i go back to try and find the post... or that i've gone nuts!

I hate it. It's the equivalent of writing an article, not saving often enough, and crashing and losing it all.

Sorry about that, guys. I was just weary seeing it and thinking about it.

Then you(or any Thread Starter) should have thought about that BEFORE you posted it originally. It seriously sucks.

Totally not directed at you, personally, CK. I've been meaning to post this for a long time. It just happened to be your thread the time I finally got around to saying something I'd been thinking for a while. Like I said, I think it's a design flaw.

Sorry paiger...I won't do it again.

No worries, WS...I appreciated all of your input. Just wanting to move on right now.

I'm not picking on you entirely either, it just sucks in general when people do this. I think you are the straw that broke the camel's back. :0

I know. I'm not sweating it. :heehee:

I actually disagree. I think the OP should be able to delete a thread and have all subsequent posts disappear as well. In my opinion, members should have that control. Also, sometimes a member will start a thread and then, because of the types of responses that are generated, realize the entire thread was a bad idea and wish for it all to go away (case in point: my recent bar application psycho-rant). So I like the fact that a thread starter can erase all evidence of a thread, including subsequent posts.

I get that. But my issue is in the implicit decision that everyone else's posts don't get to be read, then, as well. As the OP, you have control over what you put out there, sure, but I don't think individual posters should also get control over what other people put out there. I know you don't agree. That's fine.

I wouldn't bother to post, were I to realize it was gonna get deleted for reasons not having to do with me. Waste of time.

I think this is one of those no-win situations. I think being able to delete a thread is a necessary evil although it is unfortunate that other posters lose their convos. I can remember a situation where a poster actually left the boards after spilling her heart out on a thread only to have all of it deleted, so I can definitely sympathize. I guess I would sugget that thread starters be more diligent in looking at what other convos are happening in their thread before deciding to delete it.

This is exactly one situation I was thinking of, and I wholeheartedly agree with this.

Again, I totally understand deleting posts you've made that you're no longer comfortable having made in the first place. But I really do feel that once other posters take off with it, the thread itself is kind of out of your hands. It is a no-win situation in that sense. I guess I just feel like, delete your own posts if you must, but other people don't deserve to have their conversations cut short/eliminated.

I know that's not the setup we have. But I can still give feedback, right?

Turns out they're taking the train...so by the time they get there you'll be home...on your Gazelle or something...rockin out to Kenny Chesney or whatever. Unfortunately, I'm not nerdy enough to do the Shakespeare thing...WASSAIL!! ;)

p.s. I cant believe I'm takin heat from the guy who's sig says he's "got the dick"...and his user title says "sexy bitch." And thanks for the period at the end of that by the way. I'd hate to have misread it as "sexy bitch?" or "sexy bitch!"..or "sexy? bitch!!"  Hows that for your "comedy of errors?"
