Try taking a walk outside during your lunch break. Get up and move around your office. Try to stay away from lotsa carby-foods during lunch. If it is really bad, see your PCP.

I used to HAVE to go home and nap for an hour in place of lunch. But then I got my anemia taken care of and have sufficient physical and mental energy, now. But it was torture when I was running super low on iron. Do you have any deficiencies like that? Or do you just not get enough sleep?

I'm also very tired after 1pm or more specifically, right after lunch. if your eating lunch around that time, try not to eat anything really heavy, that makes me extra tired. Then maybe take a walk, talk to a co-worker. Or I have a cup of hot tea and check in on the boards...keeps me awake the rest of the afternoon.

I need it. Without it I would just stare into space for the afternoon. I know there are better things for me - but would they taste this good?
I get so much coffee during the day that a few of the coffee shop employees have stopped charging me :) Gotta love that!

I get the same drowsiness in the afternoon but thankfully I can get up and move around the lab. I usually don't get very much done in the afternoon though which is why I usually take a late lunch.
I don't do coffee after 11 AM in the morning. I used to but caffeine stays in my system for quite some time so it effects my sleep at nights if I have coffee or caffeine after noon. Once I stopped that habit I'm out at nights in like 10 seconds and I sleep like the dead.

I actually don't drink coffee--- :)
There's really no one my age to hang out with to talk or walk around with. And it's freezing outside---
As for anemia--i've nvr been tested. Though i've suspected that i may be anemic--i don't really eat meat but try to eat tofu, leafy greens and whole wheat carbs...
But i'll try walking around inside or something... :)

Get your iron tested...it's like an $8 test, where they poke your finger with a lancet and run a drop of blood through a reader.

food comas are pretty common for people who work in an office.
My advice is to get up and take a 20 minute break whenever you start to feel tired. Get some fresh air if you can. Try not to eat a heavy lunch if you can help it. Its also good to have some fresh fruit around for a natural sugar pick-me-up.

After a heavy meal, your blood circulation to the brain decreases and thus one feels really drowsy. Like banshee said go for a walk outside or eat a candy or something. I usually drink the energy drink boost, its like a meal replacement since it takes me almost an hour to get home and I hate starving myself. I try to avoid coffee though VERY tempting!

Eat small amounts throughout the day of HEALTHY food--it'll keep your metabolism up and brain going. Also drink lots of water. As much as coffee may make you have an energy burst, you'll crash soon after. Same with soda.

thanks for all ur advice!!...i do eat healthy lunches--usually i eat fruit in the morning...than a veggie or chicken filled pita for lunch and water..and then veggies in the pm...
i think i'm just tired--i normally get around 7 hours of sleep. But yesterday i slept for about 9 hours--i was in bed by 9:30!! And i was alert all day--except maybe for 10 min.
But there's no way i'm going to bed that early again, unless i'm exhausted.
Sadly, there's no where to really walk...unless i walk aimless about.
