The main point of the challenge is to workout consistently according to your own activity level and schedule, and to follow a healthy food plan, of your chosing. Yes, this is a trust based challenge, please be honest.

Points are awarded for:
1) Posting your weekly workout plan[2 points],
2) Each workout you stick to [5 points]
3) Stick to Healthy Food Plan [1 point /day]
4) Bonus workout - 1 allowed per day. >30mins of consecutive physical activity at your current fitness level. [2 points]
5) You must take at least one day off - no workout bonus points granted for mandatory day off

Everyone will be divided into teams and the teams will compete against each other for the most points. Each team has the option to create a team fitness thread to post weekly workout schedules. Each team should come up with a Team Name & nominate a Team Captain.

Contestants should post their workout schedules weekly and report back to their team captains after they have completed the workouts (report daily, every other day . .. after you get back from a weekend out, etc).

There will be two types of Bonuses: team and individual. These bonuses will be varying amount of points. An example of a individual bonus would be: Try a healthy food you have never had before, report back if it was good. Points: 5
______
Right now I think we will be in teams of 4. We might add stuff as we go along, but for now, this is the whole concept.

paiger81

It's based on individuality, but in a team environment. Because everyone's fitness level & food choices vary, so basically the teams are there to encourage each other on a more personal basis. On the other forum I'm on my team members have my e-mail address and I randomly recieve encouraging e-mails from them, or since they know I want to work on my leg size, they'll send me articles that they have seen about new leg exercises.

If a team wants to start a specific diet together, that's fine, but not necessary.

So how does this work? Do u get to choose which team you are on?, when will the teams be posted and what other info should we be informed about?

It was decided on the original post-"Anybody interested in starting a Weight loss Challenge"- that I assign teams. Other than that, basically what is stated above is what is going on.....

Hey fitness challenge people, I am so excited about starting in April. For whoever my teammates happen to be when they are assigned, I am going to be on vacation and away from my computer starting this afternoon until March 28th. Don't freak out if I am not responding to stuff, I will DEFINITELY be participating when I get back, stuffed full of yummy chocolate from Switzerland and really in need of some exercise to work it off! :)

Definitely come up with Team NAMES, and get creative people!!! Also, if anybody has any suggestions for BONUSes, let me know. Basically I want this to be fun, because if people are bored then they are less likely to want to work out or eat healthy.

Though I do want to add that I'm eating a Apple Cinamon rice cake right now that is really good. Never thought I'd be saying that!

That seems like a pretty fun idea! I'm not really into the challenge aspect of it, but I definitely like the idea of motivating each other and seeing

To my doctors:

I will never be 5'7" and 135lbs the way you think I should. Yes, I'm 5'7" but lets work on my eating habits changing and long term health instead of me losing the equivalent of one of my legs.

LMAO! People (even doctors) can be so ignorant. healthy and thin are two different things. my cholesterol, blood sugar and thyroid are checked, oh maybe every other year. It concerns only me that I lose so much weight without doing anything. My old doctor's office claimed "not to understand" how a size-2 person could have 230+ cholesterol and exercise maybe once a week.

pisces2473
03-16-2005, 01:08 PM
I don't have that much body fat! I am just a big person, wtf???? To lose as much weight as they say I should, I would probably need to cut off a leg.

I swear, doctors need body fat analysis machines in their offices to get a better view of their patients.

Kelly, re: high cholesterol--hello, don't the dr's watch TV? Where they show the commercial for the cholesterol drugs with the basketball coach who runs a zillion miles a day with high cholesterol? And the swimmer?

Kelly, re: high cholesterol--hello, don't the dr's watch TV? Where they show the commercial for the cholesterol drugs with the basketball coach who runs a zillion miles a day with high cholesterol? And the swimmer?

that contributed to my switching doctors and speaking to the insurance company. it's OK to assume something so ignorant as all thin people are healthy, all not-so-thin people cannot possibly be - IF you are not a doctor.

If your doc really cannot understand that the factors you have going on (bigger bones, metabolic issue) contribute to your weighing more, then maybe you should find a different one.

Kelly:

My endocrinologist is GREAT with this stuff, he'll say "Try to lose 5 lbs before I see you again in 6 mos." Really attainable goals. My GYN is like, "YOU MUST RUN 2 miles a day!!! And eat yogurt!!!" My primary I haven't seen in over a year b/c I haven't been sick.

I've been thinking about asking if any of the other doctors in my GYN practice have experience with PCOS--my GYN just doesn't seem to get how everything fits in and makes everything difficult.

Bugsey34
03-16-2005, 01:28 PM
Yeah the first thing that made me consider it was hearing how much weight people lost on this board with it. Plus it sounds like a reasonable plan that I could do for the rest of my life. I'm not a dieting person, this is the first time I've ever actually concentrated on loosing any weight in my life. I always thought diets were crap because you just gain the weight back anyway because you cant follow them forever.

But this one sounds healthy to me and even though the first two weeks are basically a strict no carb thing (which I am against), I think it will be good for me. I was beginning to rethink it, but then I realized that I am basically a carb and sugar addict. I hate to be addicted to things, so two weeks cutting it back should be good for me. Wake up my mashed potato loving a$$ and snap it into shape.

Seriously. You don't need that shit. As a GYN, she SHOULD understand that PCOS complicates the weight loss anyway.

I know. Everyone is like, you don't sound that enthused by her...you should get a new doctor. Plus, she's not an MD. She's a nurse-midwife. That doesn't bother me, really, it's just her personality/attitude and not really understanding me or where I'm coming from--and she blows off my concerns with "don't worry about that" (like when I asked her about my chances of being able to conceive). Once when I thought I had a contraception accident over a weekend, I had to call the service and this SUPER NICE YOUNG female doctor in my practice called me back. I'm going to have to research her.

Cottage cheese = less sugar than yogurt too. Love those Cottage Doubles!

I'm thinking about letting the teams choose what is considered healthy eating. Obviously eating McD's all week is not super healthy, but I think if each team picks one healthy food habit to pick up each week, then sticks to it, that is considered healthy eating. EX: If your entire team decides in Week 1 to start taking vitamins, you do it, then you get the point. Then the next week you keep with the vitamins, then maybe agree to eat salads 2 days a week, something like that.

Make sense?

Technically, signup doesn't end until the 20th, so there is still time for people to sign up. If we don't get any more people, we could make you referee :huge:
