So, I went to my doctor yesterday and told her about these migrains I get (every weekend, which is super weird..and I can't figure out why its only on the weekends) and she said I have to start taking a DAILY migraine pill to prevent them...

I hate the idea of taking a daily pill. It's just..

Does anyone else get migraines? if so, do you know what causes them for you?? I'm trying to figure out why my only come on the weekends.

I get migraines, though not as much as I used to, and they almost always come on the weekends, especially Sundays. I think it's because my sleep schedule is different on the weekend. I was prescribed Midrin. You are supposed to take two at the beginning and then one and hour until the pain goes away. I'm not very happy with it. I don't like it that you have to take them right away on the onset because what if it's not a real migraine? I think a daily pill wouldn't be that bad, it could be worse. When I went to the er for one once they gave me a prescription for Vicodin. Yeah, like I want to be taking that each time I get a headache.

Yeah, I've had to go to the doctor before because my migraine was so unbareable that I thought I was going to die. THey also gave me vicodin ..but vicodin makes me really sick (I throw up and get dizzy). I was also prescribed some type of medicine that I'm supposed to take right when I feel a migraine coming on..but that makes me sick too :(

Hmm..I never thought of sleeping schedule. My headaches are almost always on Sundays or Saturdays. Odd.

Are you outside more on the weekends or have more exposure to anything that would cause allergies? I ask because my mom thought she had migraines for years (so bad that we'd have to take her to the ER for a shot that would knock her out for about 3 days before they'd go away), but after trying every kind of therapy you can think of, turns out they were all allergy-related. She began allergy treatment and hasn't had a migraine in, oh, eight years probably. Headaches still, yes, but not dibilitating migraines anymore. Those suckers are bad news.

Anyway, just a thought. Good luck!

I get them bad when I eat certain foods and when I'm under a lot of stress. But everyone's triggers are different, so you could be if you're staying up late, eating something (maybe pizza if you only get it on the weekends). It might even be that you're getting too much sleep. Any derivation from your "normal" routine could be a trigger. I would try to get maybe one or two more hours of sleep max, lay off "party" food and maybe quit drinking (I am making the assumption that you are like me and have a few beers when not working, nothing HUGE but it could be a trigger). I have done so many dietary changes to try and isolate my food triggers, it has really screwed me up. I became a vegitarian for a month, till I got crippled by one of the worst headaches ever, but have found that just about anything could be a trigger, when I have more of less of it in my diet. The key for me is balance and not having one or two days where I completly change my day-to-day routines.

Just try and think of what you do differently on the weekends, and that is probably your trigger. My doctor gave me a "headache journal" that can help, however it's so long that it would make my headache worse if I wrote in it when I had one.

Kitty, doesn't your job stress you out? Maybe you get them on the weekends b/c you aren't at work, so it's "safe" to not feel well? Like your body copes with the stress fine while you're at work, but once you're out, you're allowed to get sick, etc.

Do you drink a lot more or less coffee on weekends? I know I get normal headaches if I drink less coffee on the weekend but it could trigger something stronger if you are prone to migraines.

Here in Belgium they call it 'weekend-migraine'. A couple of years ago, I went down every weekend. A whole day migraine, feeling totally knocked down, and sometimes I had to vomit too.
A whole week of stress, and at the moment you may rest or unstress, you get it. You may also have an allergy. I discovered that my allergy is milk products, lactose.
When I get it (less than in the past), I take medicin because you cannot do much against it, I guess. Don't sleep untill noon, that's absolutely one thing. And sometimes, drink one more coffee. Cafeine is good against headaches or migraine.

I have a friend who used to get Migraines all the time. The doctors told him he was allergic to EVERYTHING under the sun. Told him to quit eating dang near everything, as well as being allergic to everything. He quit taking his BC POWDER and everything went back to normal. NO JOKE!

I go visit a Spinologist daily. He is NOT a Chiropractor, but a spinologist. Chiropractor's TWIST the spine to make you feel better. A spinologist PUSHES the vertebrae back into their proper alignment and allows your back muscles to pull the spine naturally. I said all of that to say this. ONe of his patients was a cheerleader who was forced to quit after her 3RD concussion. She had migraines all the time. She has been visiting Alan, our spinologist, since June and the migraines have all but gone away. I can't explain it. I just know that it works.

Hope this helps.

The name of the place is Kinetic Potential. I don't know if there are other places like it or not. If you're interested I'll ask Alan, next time I see him, where other doctors like him are located. Just PM me.

I never thought about the stress aspect (body getting sick when its OK). My doctor said that most migraines come on because of stress, so she thought it was odd they were coming on the weekend...

I know it is NOT caffiene related because I drink a shitload of coffee during the work week and a shitload of coffee during the weekend.

I guess I'll be taking the daily pill!

Kitty, I know it's weird...but I used to get sick during EVERY school vacation in college. I hated getting sick (esp. during finals) so it was like my body could keep the illness at bay while I was studying and super-busy, but as soon as I got home, BAM! I got sick.

It's possible and weird!!

I don't think it is food related because I eat the same food during the week. The only other thing it could be would be sleep.

I don't think its an allergy.

I had migrianes for over five and a half years. They are worse than democrats in the white house. I did not find a cure until my 17th docter, so take my word for it do not give up, and bon chance.

I suffer from migraines so I feel your pain - quite literally. There's nothing worse. When I used to sleep late on the weekends I got them a lot then too. Many things can trigger them - too much or too little sleep, foods, tension, etc. My worst ones come when I don't eat reguarly. In fact, come to think of it, if you sleep late on the weekends and you're missing meals, that might have something to do with it.
