Anyone else notice that this is basically going to be a women's health forum?

Actually you will notice that my description of the forum states that "All sexes and ages are welcome here" so men post away!

Should I add a sports forum or something else so the men of qlc don't feel left out?

Ever get drunk and have a "zipping accident" after you relieve yourself?

Didn't think so... plus if you're ever in a real hurry and sit down real quick you've never sat on your boobs and had a stomachache all day.

I doubt if I had a pair of boobs I would spend so much time and effort chasing after them, which is half the fun. :bigger:

You know how many times I've knocked stuff over cuz of my boobs? That gets annoying really fast. They get in the way of everything! I was even carrying a bunch of long stem roses once and one hit my boob and broke. Luckily the florist was nice and gave me a replacement (after I had to tell her how it broke!) I honestly wouldn't be complaining as much if they were smaller, but I feel like mine are WAY too big. At least if you have a zipping accident the pain doesn't last forever. I have had back problems since I was 16. Gymnastics started my back problems, my boobs have continued it. I've actually gotten USED to having back pain as a part of my life, it's constant.

And to all you women who lose their boob mass when you lose weight, you are so damn lucky! Because mine don't! :0

Yep. My mom saw me naked a few weeks back, and made me feel worse by yelling to my dad that my boobs were flattened.......gee thanks, mom. They agreed to help out with the cost if I get to my goal weight.

Oh, and I'm not going for anything like DD's I've just always had a big curvy butt and nice boobs. Now I'm all ass, and it makes me feel uneven.

Yeah, the one thing people rarely talk about is how losing weight can really ruin your body. For me, most of my weight was in my stomach, so after I lost all my weight I had a shitload of extra skin...

So, I had surgery to remove it.

It sucks after losing so much weight that you body isn't the way you might have imagined it would be.

paiger81
03-27-2005, 10:18 PM
Yep, starting working out and my boobs shrank really quickly. Unfortunately my legs are where most of my weight is, so I might have to have the skin tightening done there, I guess I'll come to that when I get there.

Kitty
03-28-2005, 12:32 PM
It was expensive, with a long recovery. However, it is probably the best thing I ever did for myself - I couldn't be happier now. I had it done almost a year ago.

My one piece of advice would be to realize what you're getting into and FULLY research your procedure, doctor, etc. People tend to think its no big deal, that the recovery time is super quick, they aren't prepared for complications, etc. I would not recommend it for everyone, but if you've done your homework and you know what you're getting into - then go for it.

pisces2473
03-28-2005, 12:43 PM
Wow...did you just have it done on your stomach? Or other areas? I fear the extra skin thing when I lose weight...but I am doing weight training to build some muscle to take up that extra room...

Kitty
03-28-2005, 12:48 PM
I just had it done on my stomach, which was really the only area effected. There is a little bit of extra skin on the inside of my thighs (way high up) - but it would only be noticeable in a bathing suit (which I never wear). I can still pull off mini skirts. My boobs, ass, arms, etc. look fine.

What I had done was fairly extensive. I had 5 pounds of extra skin in my stomach!! It was crazy. My stomach is completely and totally flat now. It's pretty awesome.

Also, I lost around 80 pounds, which is really extensive. I doubt the extra skin factor would have been that bad if it was just like 30 pounds.

pisces2473
03-28-2005, 12:52 PM
Wow Kitty! Good for you! I weigh a lot, but I do have a lot of lean muscle mass...so the extra weight I would lose HOPEFULLY will not mean a lot of skin left over and sagging. But it's good to keep in mind.

Kitty
03-28-2005, 01:05 PM
How much are you trying to lose?

pisces2473
03-28-2005, 01:06 PM
HAHA. Well, the BMI charts say I should be like 175 or something, but I have 180ish lbs. of lean muscle. So go figure that. 30 lbs would be a nice start.

Kitty
03-28-2005, 01:12 PM
How tall are you!?!? According to those stupid charts I'm on the large end for my height (which I think is retarded). I'm supposed to weigh like 123-145 or something. I cannot imagine weighing 123 at 5'7 with my frame. I would be skina nd bones.

How do you know if you have lean muscle or not?

paiger81
03-28-2005, 01:18 PM
A lot of the charts do not take into account your build(small, medium, or large) I used to read that I was supposed to weigh 95-105:eek: There is no way!

When I talked with my doc, he said that even though I am short(5 ft) I have a large build, so I should weigh 115-135. My goal is 125, so in total I will have lost 67 pounds when all is said and done.

pisces2473
03-28-2005, 01:20 PM
I'm 5'7" and I DEFINITELY have a large build. Add my metabolic probs. in, and it would be a MIRACLE for me to weigh anything less than 175/180.

Kitty
03-28-2005, 01:21 PM
When I went to my cosmetic surgeon i weighed 150 and I asked him if I needed to lose more weight before the surgery. He was like, "No way, you have a very large rib cage and your weight is ideal." After the surgery I weighed 145 because they removed so much skin. So, I think my weight is fine...however, my regular doctor told me it would be ideal to lose 10 more pounds. WTF? She was basing that on one of those charts and my age. Lame..

pisces2473
03-28-2005, 01:24 PM
My trainer told me I have an average build due to the wrist/finger test (where you put your thumb and index finger around your wrist)...but my ankles are HUGE and there's barely any fat on them. I also have a size 10 foot! I'm not a small girl. My rib cage is pretty big too...

Kitty
03-28-2005, 01:26 PM
my wrists are extremely skinny. So are my fingers. I can almost never find bracelets/watches that fit me. So, that test says nothing, IMO. How does your wrist account for your entire body??!?!

biodork
03-28-2005, 01:30 PM
I have had the same problems-I have a scale that does your BMI, and it says i'm "overfat" and I have 33% body fat. I do know I used to be in the lower 20's so I think I'm a bit overweight because I've done like NO exercise at all in the past several months, but it's still discouraging. My wrists are really tiny also, but i've always felt like my thighs were huge. Its how my mom is too. I think I have scraggly arms also heh.

pisces2473

I know--I take some of the things he says with a grain of salt. I do have fat fingers though

Elyse--35% and over body fat IS overfat. I'm around 33% right now.

03-28-2005, 01:38 PM

pisces2473
03-28-2005, 01:41 PM
What cracks me up is when thinner people have higher %'s of body fat. It's like, "Now who's the fatass?" My mom is about 2 sizes smaller than me, but has more body fat.

Kitty
03-28-2005, 01:41 PM
I think my body fat was 25%. I used one of those little machines that you hold and it supposedly calculates your body fat. i really don't know how accurate those are though....

pisces2473
03-28-2005, 01:50 PM
My trainer uses those caliper things, apparently those are accurate.

biodork
03-28-2005, 01:51 PM
My trainer uses those caliper things, apparently those are accurate.

When I had a trainer (a very long time ago!) she used those, they were def accurate, because it's actually measuring what you have there instead of taking from averages.

Kitty
03-28-2005, 01:53 PM
but then why do you have to enter your height and weight into them?

biodork
03-28-2005, 01:56 PM
Because you still need your height and weight to figure into the whole calculation, but you are also taking measurements of i guess fat you have there so it becomes more accurate for you.

Of course my scale says its "extremely accurate" because you have to weigh yourself with no socks or clothes on, and it sends a very light current through your body and measures your body fat that way...not 100% certain about just how accurate it is but it seems decent.

Kitty
03-28-2005, 02:00 PM

I started losing so much weight (which was weird because I lost a lot of it in my fingers, face, and boobs!), but I'm gaining it back because I can't lay off the sweets. It's all in my tummy :(

But this is coming from the girl who whines about not having money for clothes. If I didn't have Jason (my trainer) I'd have some more extra money floating around. But he's worth it--he motivates me, gets me off my ass, and helps me find ways to get stronger.

Two more weeks until what? Kitty, I think I've spent more money in the past two months on clothes than I have in a long time (says the girl who was excited to get $50 in grocery gift cards for Easter so she could food shop w/out putting it on her credit card, lol).

Kitty
03-28-2005, 02:17 PM
Oh, well, I have this new plan where I only go shopping every other month. I cheated a little bit and bought that sweater because it was regularly like 80 bucks on sale for 15. So, I got it. But other than that I have been so good!

My plan is that the month I don't go shopping to pay off a HUGE chunk of my credit card. This month I paid off $500.

Congrats to you!!!! Just think, after you pay off your debts, if you continue to shop every other month and put money away in the off months, you'll have a nice chunk of change for a sweet vacation or a new car or to put away in retirement (gulp).

Kitty
03-28-2005, 02:23 PM
I know, thats the plan. My shopping was out of control. I wouldn't go out and spend huge amounts of money - but I would casually go shopping during lunch breaks and on weekends and it was adding up fast! Buying a pair of jeans here, a sweater there is dangerous!!

So, yeah, I am making dramatic changes.

pisces2473

That's so great!!!! I almost went to Barnes and Noble on Friday just to buy whatever books I wanted. I had to stop myself. Clothes--I'm okay on right now...although I did see some cute stuff last week that I would never get to wear to work, so I had to say no...

I'm just trying to save more money period.

Kitty
03-28-2005, 02:28 PM

Tayl405
03-28-2005, 02:32 PM
That's what I've always done--spend more money on a few things that last a long time. Over the years I've built up a nice wardrobe. Too bad I wear the same things over and over, lol.

I did just get a new bathing suit though (I sucked it up and went shopping for one!). It's so cute, but I REALLY need to cut back on the chocolate now!

paiger81
03-28-2005, 02:35 PM
With the weight loss it's kind of hard for me to buy pricey stuff. I know that in a few weeks/months it won't fit. For instance I have on a size 10 pair of slacks on today that I bought 4 weeks ago. Motherfuckers are start slipping down my waist when I walk  People keep telling me that it should make me feel skinny, but all it does is irritate me cause it means I need to go buy newer clothing. I hate waisting money on shit like this

On the bright side, most of my tops still fit...though obviously less boobies.

Kitty
03-28-2005, 02:40 PM
Yeah, its annoying because you want to buy new clothes because you weigh less and its fun...but it is also a waste. I had to get a new wardrobe after my surgery.

When I was losing weight I didn't buy any clothes. I think I wore the same couple of jeans and hoodies for like 10 months. Then when I did go shopping it was like HOLY FUCK THIS IS AMAZING! I was in college, so it was easier to wait..but if you work it sucks because you still have to look nice.

paiger81
03-28-2005, 02:43 PM
Yep. When I'm at home, I'm wearing my old sweat pants and stuff, but at work it sucks.

Today as I was coming into work, I saw 2 college aged girls jogging. I kept thinking to myself "Yeah, I should have had this whole weight loss epiphany in college. I had so much time on my hands back then" But, whatever, better late than never.

That's how I've been lately. When I was in college and even in the last few years, I would go shopping at least every other day. Now I rarely shop, but when I do, I buy the good stuff, instead of tons of OK stuff that probably isn't very professional-looking anyway. I'm actually saving money that way.

I, too, am trying to pay off bigger chunks of my credit card debt.

Today as I was coming into work, I saw 2 college aged girls jogging. I kept thinking to myself "Yeah, I should have had this whole weight loss epiphany in college. I had so much time on my hands back then" But, whatever, better late than never.
Me too, Paige, me too.

Yeah, in college I bought super trendy stuff that would look good with like one other thing in my closet. I also bought really ridiculous shoes that I could barely walk in and also only matched one or two outfits. It was dumb.

It's funny how buying a jacket that costs $400 can actually save you in the long run.

Yeah, that's how I am now...it has to be able to go with a few things I already own instead of "let me just get a shirt to match these pants" and "can I wear it to work?"

And the shoes HAVE to be comfy.

I used to just wait until around xmas time and my mom would take me out to buy a whole bunch of new clothes for presents, and then she'd wrap them up and i'd get to open them back up on xmas. That didn't happen this year though :( Now I stick to to Kohls (with the occasional expensive thing thrown in if i absolutely love it and must have it! aka $70 black express jeans :) )

I really wanna get the regular color jean now too! (Dark blue) They are so comfy! But I do have to wear them with a high heel because they are a little long on me. I dress it up a little though so it makes me feel nice :)

"can I wear it to work?"

When I go shopping now this questions constantly runs through my head. I'm always trying to find stuff I can wear to work and also on the weekend.

OMG, I bought these shoes to wear to the wedding on Sunday:

I have to practice walking in them, but they're so worth cause they make my legs looks GREAT!! lol I figure if I can master this, I can master anything :)

I bought those too, Tayl!! They came last week. I think they're really comfortable (I've been wearing them around the house cuz I'm a dork)... And, they don't have that ankle strap thing that makes everyone's legs look chubby... That's why I love them...

You think they're comfortable?! Wow, I'm impressed :huge: I wore them to lunch yesterday and almost cried. I don't think I'll be doing much dancing at this wedding, lol.

Yes, me too. Luckily, we don't have to get super-dressed up at work and we can get as casual as we want...so most of my clothes are for 7 days/week wear.

I hate waisting money on shit like this

Hilarious! I guess those pants freudian slip on you.

Just a quick fyi, dont trust the BMI. Its flawed. I think I heard that the hip to waist ratio was a more accurate measure. Something like that.

Me too. I've started asking myself these questions when I want something:
- Is it work appropriate?
- Can I also wear it out?
- Can it be paired with a lot of different outfits?
- Does it require me to buy something to go with it? (If yes, then don't buy!)
- Do I look totally hot in it? (if yes, then there's no question about it)

Let's just say since implementing this new rule I have spent a lot less money on new clothes!

I've been doing a lot of mixing things around and making new outfits :)

Plus, I PURGED like crazy...so now I have less but am doing more with it.

I also try to make outfits in the store. I used to never do that. I'd just buy pieces that I liked. Now, I try to buy entire outfits while shopping. It's really very helpful.

It's a running joke with us...so as a joke I made him a fake Valentines Day card on a napkin...the outside said, "Happy Valentines Day!" and then on the inside it said, "Maybe after the op."

Jen - When did the op get moved to??
Tentatively April 4th. They just have to make sure that all the doctors (2 surgeons, plastic surgeon, anesthesiologist) can fit him into their schedules. *sigh*

That is very frustrating. I don't know how you psyche yourself up for that only to have it moved.

It's really hard...

Kitty

I know how hard it is!!

My ex-bf had a lung collapse. We were actually on a date when it happened and I could tell something was seriously wrong. He was totally out of breath and could barely walk a few feet without having to stop and sit down. He kept saying, "Oh, I just haven't eaten" and "Maybe its a headache coming or something.." but I could tell it was something seirous..

Finally he said he needed to stop somewhere and rest awhile. Then he suddenly passed out and we had to call an ambulance.

He was very close to dying. His lung had collapsed and he wasn't getting enough oxygen.

He had to lay in the hospital for almost a month waiting for them to operate.

So horrible..

Oh that's horrible. Why did they have to wait a month???
