(wiping sweat from brow) OK, daring to venture into estrogen rich territory...

Given the thread on female hairloss, which was surprising to see actually, wondering if there are any guys with a similar issue. Guess I'm watching my hairline which I THINK is moving, but so slowly its hard to tell. Granted this is like the only superficial issue most guys have to deal with, but even the idea of losing my hair is NOT cool... so according to the girls, stress can be a factor, any other guys out there with similar concerns? Or knowledge?

I'm not so sure, as for me, everyone in my family is bald, so I know I'm screwed, but I was under a lot more stress a few months ago than I am now, and my hair wasn't falling out as bad as it is now.
It was going really grey, which, given a choice between the two I would say greyt hair is a hell of a lot better than no hair. But that has stoped since I gained a bit more sanity in my life.

I'm a girl, but I'll chime in. My brother has thinning hair. I say this b/c thinning is all over and, I think, stress related. Thinning can be reversed w/ proper care and good health. Baldness is the usual pattern thing that you see. Which are you guys talking about?

Oh, and personally, I think bald by choice is hot. Like, when you see the pattern coming, just save f*ck you hair and shave it off. :)

I'm with Met.
You know, maybe it's because most the men in my family are bald or balding, but a guy having hair or not has never been an issue for me. My brother began losing his hair about 10 years ago, and now he just buzzes it all off and I think it looks great. Now, if you're bald on top and letting it grow long around the edges...you've got issues. ;)

Having your f**king hair fall out. Does it matter why?

Thats easy when you don't have a f**king weird irish potato-head like me.

LOL, Morgan. If you're hair is doing the male pattern baldness thing, just keep it real short. It just looks better. Like you're saying, f*ck you hair, I don't need you, anyway. ;) You can always cover it up w/ your Yankee hat.

If you're losing it b/c of stress or poor health habits, you can reverse it. When I don't take my vitamins and eat right, I definitely lose more hair than normal. If that's what is going on, try to control the stress or eat better or whatever you need to do, use some rogaine shampoo and your hair will probably come back.

I have shaved my head before by choice. And althought that experiment was very handy when I was involved with multiple athetic teams, I still don't like looking at those pictures. I know I should be above this and it shouldn't matter as much to me but, I NEED HAIR, I LIKE IT AND I DON'T WANT TO BE BALD.

Nope, not taking the bait....

Well as we all know, "male pattern" baldness is sex linked, so the best thing to do is look at your mother's side of the family.

I however, have the rather unique distinction in so far as that my maternal grandfather not only died before I was born, but was in an industrial accident a long time before he died that crushed most of his skull (Amazingly the only brain damage he suffered was the optic center, leaving him blind). This means that while the hair on his head reportedly thinned as he got older, but did not show signs of pattern baldness, it is not indicative at all as none of that hair growing skin originated from his head (skin graph).

I know my hairline has moved since high school, I have a small mole that I know used to sit just behind my hairline that now sits just in front of it, so that's like 1/4 inch. Maybe the hairline will move, or maybe it's just "adjusted itself. I still have confidence in the latter.

Actually they've found baldness isn't just the mother's side anymore, but it does have a background in genetics. My bf is proof of this. He is definitely going bald, but his mom's dad never did.

You know I keep hearing on the radio about some thing where they use a "cool laser" to regrow lost hair? Anyone else heard of this? My bf is upset about his hair loss, im trying to find ways he could maybe get it back. He isn't losing hair in the right place to use rogaine.

I'm not really sweating the hair loss deal. The males on my mom's side have full heads of hair. My dad is pretty bald and he's sporting a mad combover but I love him anyway. He has wondered if he should get rid of it all but I don't see him with the side stuff and those few strands across his scalp. I may suggest that he try getting his sides real short and doing without the combover so the contrast won't be so bad. I think my dad tried Rogaine too but that didn't seem to do much good.
If I ever start going bald though, I think I will shave it all off or get it real short a la Messier and Willis. I shaved my head a couple times in high school and once in college. Even though I have a Charlie Brown head I do like the low maintenance. I have contemplated doing it again. Maybe I'll try it this summer.

Hey Sugar House had a hair regrowth thing. It was for men and women and one of the massage therapists actually used it herself. It's a laser thing that you do like once a week and overtime it will start growing back. I remember it being al ittle pricey, but maybe you can look into it.

All I'm saying is that it's not just the mom's side, there are contributing genetic factors on both sex chromosomes.

Here we go:
Laser Hair Rejuvenation
Low Laser Therapy is a non-invasive, non-chemical treatment that can help stop hair loss, and has been shown to help increase hair density without adverse side-effects. Both men and women who are suffering from sudden hair loss or gradual thinning are experiencing incredible results form this gentle laser treatment. Regardless of whether the hair loss is due to genetics, medications, hormonal changes, or other medical conditions, most patients experience a cessation of hair loss and remarkable increase in hair thickness and regrowth.
More info at www.sugarhousedayspa.com. Oh, for everyone else, I used to work there. ;) I'm sure it's available at other salon/spas too.

So things like rogain and the laser, are they one shot deals? or is it like a lifelong thing to maintain the hair?

Yah, I know it's like the ONLY outward feature guys worry about, and I'm trying to not care, but ya know.

I think the laser might be a one time thing (unless you need to go back for more losee) Rogaine I do think you have to continue to use for awhile, but it only works for hair loss that starts on the back of your head, not the top.

I'm pretty sure the laser thing you do once a week for several weeks.

I heard that Rogaine, once started, must be continued for the rest of your life. If you start Rogaine and stop, you actually have a more increased chance of balding (this comes from an uncle who considered it, researched it, and ultimately decided not to use it, so feel free to dispute this, I'm not sure if it's really true or if other tests have been done to prove this otherwise).

My boyfriend has actually been obsessed with what he considers a receding hairline (he has a naturally high hairline anyway, but he thinks it's getting worse). If anything, he's getting thinning hair, and I know there are shampoos and such out there that can help this (check health/beauty magazines, they always have out-of-the-ordinary solutions to things like this).

All of my uncles on my mom's side are balding (God help my brothers later in life!), and they either shave their heads or keep the hair really short, and it looks fine.

thanks for the input... yah, I know I just need to relax about this stuff... just a concern about being single and this going on, whole attraction thing.

So for you girls, if someone has slightly thinning hair, or a slight receeding hairline at our age (mid 20's) is that an issue or not?
