Sorry if this is TMI for the guys, but I warned you with the title! I've had a breakthrough bleeding problem after EVERY time I have sex, and I'm pretty sure it's been since I've been on BC, but not entirely sure because I've basically been on BC since I started having sex. It's really annoying, because sometimes I feel like I have a light period and need to wear a pad or tampon. It's like having sex jump starts my period for 5 days or so. I hate it! Sometimes I feel like I have several mini periods throughout the month. And I'm not on Depo, just the pill. Does anyone else have this problem? I wonder if I just need to keep searching for the right BC.

Does it ever happen when you aren't having sex? Could it be bleeding from a lack of lubrication? I don't know if sex hormones can actually trigger menstrual bleeding--I would call your dr.

I hate when this happens....Unfortunatley i have no idea why it does.. I've been on and off BCP just to see and it still happens...let me know what you find out....

I do get breakthrough throughout the month as well, not just after sex. Usually I get it the week before my period is supposed to start.

I notice the closer I get to my period and if i happen to miss my pill (which is rare), or even take it late, say 6+ hours, i get breakthrough bleeding; though i just figured it was normal...

You know what else is weird? I've also noticed in the week before my period, the days I have breakthrough I'm also extremely depressed. I wonder if they are connected?

I really don't want to freak you out, but I have a friend who had a similar problem and it ended up being very serious (endometriosis). I'm obviously not a doctor and don't know details or anything, but it sounds like it's worth checking out.

Do you have pains otherwise?

No pains usually, sometimes I think I get light cramps, but I feel like they are so faint i'm almost imagining it.

I also have some pain during sex, but I believe it is due to lack of lubrication.

I've told my gyn about the breakthrough, and she just switches me to another BC after I tell her about it. I definitely never had breakthrough before being on BC (when I was a virgin).

spotting after sex can be a sign of a yeast infection. so can slight pain.

it is fairly common to have break through bleeding with the low dose bcp. are you on one?
