Just curious to see if anyone has run a marathon, or even a half marathon. I might be doing one in June (if I'm ready)

I ran a half-marathon four years ago (I can't beleive it was that long ago!)

It was AWESOME. The race was on Mackinac Island and I kicked ass. I still run today, but I'd have to do a lot of training to be able to get that time back. And I'm no longer in the 20-24 age group, damn.

I love running. You've almost inspired me to run another race. Maybe I will.

My ex ran in a marathon. I think what helped her was joining a running club where she had a coach and the club would run together every Saturday morning. I'm sure you could find one easily in San Diego. Check out the local running store. They would probably have one. I think any runner could benefit from having a coach.

Yeah that's rough. It's a personal victory if I get out of bed before 8AM on weekdays.

There's a 42-mile ultramarathon in Fiordland, New Zealand that I plan on doing someday. Also on my list:

Stockholm Marathon
Oslo Marathon
Easter Island Marathon
Trondheim Marathon
Midnight Sun Marathon
Ankgor Wat Marathon

I don't mean to brag, but...

I am a running slut. I've been a runner for 12 years. I've been in and won road races. :green: A letter I wrote was in the Running Times two months ago. :D If you have any questions, just ask or PM me.

I have always wanted to do the Escape from Alcatraz triathlon. And I may decide to do a marathon this September, but it won't be for a good time (around 4 - 4 1/2 hours). I have walked 26 miles before, but never jogged that far.

So for you people that are regular runners - anyone ever had runners knee? I think I've got it now. It probably doesn't help that my shoes are 3 years old, but I have to hold off on buying a new pair until I land a job. Speaking of shoes, what's your favorite? I've only had Addidas, New Balance and Nike, but I here that Saucony and Asics are great.

I have wide, flat feet so I like the New Balances that I have. I forget what model number they are.

Maybe you might want to look into these. I have worn these for basketball and running and my knee feels much better than when I don't wear them.

There are many great manufacturers. New Balance, Saucony, Asics, Adidas are all great, but so are Mizuno and Brooks. More importantly pay attention to the type of shoe. Some are made for people whose arches flatten and ankles roll, and some are made for people whose arches don't flatten.

It isn't so much the age of the shoes as it is the number of miles. Most are designed to last between 300-600 miles. But using your shoes for other activities, like shopping and mowing the lawn, also wears them down.

I would find a running shoe store and ask for help. Also, you can check out www.roadrunnersports.com.

And you can ask me as many questions as you like! :green:

I run about 30 miles a week - yeah, it's definitely time for a new pair. My favorite running store is Running Fit. Do these exist outside of Michigan? I went there this past weekend and drooled over all the new shoes.

So, of the races that you've ran, what has been your favorite? Mine are:

The Great Turtle Half Marathon (Mackinac Island)
The Bayshore Marathon & 10K (Traverse City)

I really want to do this race called "Dances with Dirt". It's a team trail running event. Anyone heard of it?

Yeah, you need a new pair! Favorite races...

Saunders at Rye 10K (Rye, NH)
Scoops 5K (Edgartown, MA)

They're both along the ocean, but not in a commercial resort area...
I don't know the Dances with Dirt or Running Fit. But if you're drooling over running shoes, well, rock on. I thought I was the only one who did this!

I've had issues with my knees and if seems like I'm almost done with running. I love to run but I think my knees have just about had all they can take. It makes me feel old at 29 now. I do get good shoes and insoles but it just doesn't seem to do it anymore. My prefered shoes used to be Brooks but now I usually order from Eastbay.com and get Asics that are cushioned support. I also start searching their site before I need new shoes because the discontinued model shoes can usually be found marked down 10-40 dollars from their original price as long as they still have some in your size. So I guess my game plan now if to keep walking and get myself a good bike to ride and maybe still occasionally run.

Do they have a trail running shoe?

Funny you should ask... I just got my latest issue of Running Times magazine (I had a letter printed in them recently!), and, they were reviewing trail shoes... including Mizuno's newest trail shoe, the Mizuno Wave Ascend. The review is pretty favorable.
