From what I have seen, it really depends...corporate does tend to pay more on average, yes, but the numbers tend to be skewed by people who are higher up. Benefits are usually better in a non-profit setting, and they may make up for a discrepency in pay.
I do volunteer a couple of hours a week, so in part that helps to give me a sense that I am doing something for the community. Granted, some companies will encourage you to do community service and will provide paid volunteering days. I think in the coming years this will become more and more prevalent in corporate America, although perhaps not for a while given the state of the economy and the push for production.
